Live cut - http://mdsp.smartelectronix.com/2005/07/livecut.php

TIP - bounce out a few minutes of glitches and cut up the bits you like. process further if desired etc

All VSTs

You can search for all sorts, just check the free button if you only want free stuff. absolutely hundreds of evrything you can think of. synths, effects, hosts, you name it.

Natural instruments are prob going to have to be sampels, there are millions around, there are loads of good sample links on here, on dogsonacid.com (millions there, dnb forum) spend a bit of time searching and looking for yourself...

mate google is your friend. there is an infinity of stuff out there.

get a few bits and sit down and play with it for a long time. thers no right answers and no magic peices of software !

Peace
many thanks on the advice, and links :D :D very greatful....
im def going to sit down with some books and really learn about the programs... and of course production.
i had a feeling real instrument sounds would be hard to replicate on a synth.
i have reason adapted coming this month, and ableton lite,so at least i will have plenty to use and learn about....

Here, theres a free plugin list on this website, not completely comprehensive, but its compiled by a certain Music Software companies employees, who seem to be in the know.

go dig around the cheap bin at your music store and get instrumental/classical/world music CDs anything like that, should find usable instrument samples to cut up there

i used to produce hip-hop and thats the way i did it

fact is the Orkester sound bank in Reason is decent and theres plenty other instruments around which have multi-sampled real instruments and then you compose the melody yourself using micro-samples of real recording...
however, a real orchestra playing that melody will sound smoother, more natural and better overall!

so get some cds and find the samples
plus just cos you want strings dont necessairly think classical music - some of the strings in bollywood stuff are great, as are some of the strings in japanses/chinese compositions

I'd love something like this, i find it hard to find/make an instrument that sounds real natural, eg; horns, strings
