I wouldn't say FL is limited - it comes with a whole host of plugins that you can crack on with before having to buy any other plugins.

As a long time FL Studio user I can say, all the windows annoy the heck out of me. So much so I invested in a dual monitor setup. I'm starting a new, non-dance music project soon and I'm thinking of using it to cut my teeth on Reaper.

It is true that Reaper doesn't have as many tutorials--but they have a really healthy online community. I've actually found a lot of useful info about non-Reaper related things there over the years via Google

Gotta have two monitors for fl. Totally true. And then the gui becomes the most functional of the daws.

You have the mixer on one then?

I keep the mixer and VSTs on one and the playlist on another. Pretty much sorts me. But I've got over/under monitors because of space issues and speaker placement needs.

Yeah, I have browser(hard left), mixer(at bottom), step sequencer(upper left) and all vsts on left monitor. On right monitor I have playlist and piano roll. Pretty sure they are whatchyamacallit, it is late here... extended? Anyway they float, so I've got the playlist on top, stretched wide horizontal, and the piano roll below. They share about half the screen each. If I'm primarily in the playlist, I can double click it and it fullscreens. Double click it, and it goes back to halfscreen. Same for the piano roll. This lets me do a lot of forest/trees/forest/trees kind of stuff. The best is having both opened, you can see waveforms and events up in the top playlist, and you can be sliding midi notes around on the bottom piano roll, and see the midi note in the playlist sliding around. It is a quick way to line shit up.

Tried ableton, but I am to used to the fast workflow of FL Studio.

anything has a fast workflow once you learn it.

Different people work well/quicker with different programs...personally i struggled to use FL to its full capacity, ableton just kinda sank in really quickly whereas i know alot of people would also say the exact opposite.
Try the demos for each and see for yourself what you like

Go for Bitwig Studio, it's by far the best DAW around now IMO. I got sick of Ableton's PDC problems.

Use whatever you like. Only the results matter.

I mean honestly Ive tried both. I heard people produce bangers in both. Its all a matter of opinion. I still use FL. It can get to be a pain in the ass with all the windows but as long as you make sure your working the right EQ or VST, you'll be aight. Thats pretty much the only gripe i have about FL. Ableton was a terrible experience for me. I couldnt stand the design of it. O_O Especially the piano roll. God awful if you ask me. But yet again I know ALOT of people that use it and would say the same about FL. Try em both. Use what you want. Dont let people on the interwebs convince you otherwise. And never stop making music. <3
