this is the first 120, or so, words from the write up on wiley's album....

In contrast to Dizzee's quite exuberant "Maths & English", Wiley's long awaited new album is a much more low-key affair : there are no celebrity contributions, no playful stylistic departures, and the title and artwork depict a sombre Wiley stood deserted in an empty playground in deep winter, surrounded by discarded toys painted black with an almost mournful expression on his face - even the cd body itself is covered in a thick, shiny black Lacquer. Open up the cd booklet, though, and you soon discover the back page has an alternate take : the playground suddenly drenched in colour, symbolising the opposing forces of darkness, light, hope and despair that have no doubt characterised the last couple of years for this often troubled producer.

yep thats over 100 words and no mention of a track in sight.

i like the bit about... "even the cd body itself is covered in a thick, shiny black Lacquer."

they just painted the cd black blud.

allow the charlie boys

While we're on the subject, does anybody know how to cancel an account on Boomkat? They store everything, including credit card number, completely unsecured as far as I know. I'm not too comfortable with that.

EDIT: I've just tried removing my CC info from the checkout page and it won't let me! Who the fuck are these stnuc and what makes them think they can store my CC info?

Yeah maybe it's easy to get the gush for everything when you don't actually have to pay for it.

As far as there reviews go they're not any worse than any other online record store. They're just trying to hype you up to buy shit.

It does kinda annoy me when sites say every tune is a must-own, but if they're doing they're ordering right they should believe that.

I think BoomKat's the shit, I just can't afford to shop there 'cause I'm stateside.

mans got to eat though, it's all well and good being an underground legend but I needed to take that next step y'know? Besides healthy baboons are easier to tickle, I got a special arrangement with the keeper at London Zoo.

My only problem with boomkat reviews is that in the past they've outted peoples samples in tunes, which is a bit much if you ask me. Just because you've been given the task of reviewing doesn't mean that you're justified in playing name-that-sample. With the power of google these days, it's definitely not helping the producer or the label to do that. It's also not going to help sell records either.

most of the "reviews" are just rehashes of the press release.

they hardly ever give bad reviews, not surprising really as the are trying to punt stuff out, but I can think if 2 bad ones - one for the most recent secede release on sending orbs, if you check the release page the review has now gone, and I think it was one of the recent aril brikha releases on kompakt which was trancetastic again I think the review has now gone.

One of my local shops tries to punt stuff out as good because they've sold lots of them. Has popular opinion suddenly become worth a shit or something?

Are you sure thats not just your browser storing the page in your cache?

I don't know what the beef is with them, they've always pushed dubstep releases in their newsletters (which can only be a good thing) and stock a wide range of tunes, not just releases from the big names. Can't ask for more really.

I love 'em really but this kind of stuff bugs me (a tad). If they're plagued by 'wobble standards', 'over burdened productions' and 'comedy basslines' then they ain't telling us about it. All I can find are 'Killer 12's'

'a great dubstep album that manages to kick the spotty arse off a genre and shows the world that there's more to life than a rave sample and a comedy bass line.'

'so sparse and functional that you yearn for other dubstep producers to start cleaning up their messy, over-burdened productions'

'synths that will send you off in a haze of self reflection - not really something you'd associate with most of what you'd file under the dubstep banner'

'a hybrid variation of Dubstep that's infinitely more interesting than almost all of what passes for BASS music these days'

'For every two-dozen wobble standards released every week you get the odd gemstone'

There is a slight hypocticy in this. :D
