That is really a capital difference. Can't be underlined enough. Skream's Big Apple Ep is another good example.

I like Vex'd and a lot of the breaksteppy stuff on Oris Jay's label but when everyone starts using those same minor chords and crashing snares it becomes a formula and that's everything that dubstep is against, surely? I think a lot of DMZ releases, especially Loefah's, are much heavier, scarier and more *dread* than other records that go for the obvious sci-fi/horror atmospherics.

Loads of artists doing varied sounds in this vein these days....
Urban Grafitti, Red Volume, Creative Space and Combat Recordings set the standards in my opinion......
Make sure you check Sully, Scorn and Redline!
