I just fuck about with things until I have something basic, then I start actually thinking about what will fit around it. Drums come first but I find its usually better if I get rid of the drums after I've made the music for them and replace them with better drums.

Often I'll come up with a load of sounds, scrap the whole tune and use the sounds to make something a lot better than the first idea.

It's mostly happy accidents and intuition, although it is satisfying to have a specific effect in mind and pulling that off.

Other times il go on my computer to check my emails or whatever and 3 hours later im working away getting loads done. Don't force it, its true the best thing you can do is just try and learn new ideas, methods etc.
Innit, I agree with this completely

One of the interesting things about producing for me is that I never end up with what I intend to do at the start. It's like Mala said in that blackdown interview, how you start with nothing and then an hour or so of fiddling about with things later you've got something you never even thought about before.

I think that's the cool thing about the creative process, I usually start with a beat and then see what "suggests" itself around that.
