It's such a fucking iritating squad - a few good uns in there, but so many shockers
Robert Green - WTF - just cos he got a shitload of shots knocked at him when Norwich (scum) were up it doesn't mean he's a good keeper, he also let a shitload in through poor judgement.

Hargreaves - WHY - still! he adds fuck all to the squad apart from that much needed dull as ditchwater shit haired predictably poor holding up the ball and poor distribution edge that England just lacks without him i suppose.

Crouch - WHY - just because he's a lanky bastard? Proper defenders'll take one look at his shit girl run and lack of pace and thank lucky stars. He can't even distribute that well when he does get the ball and never seems to get enough power on headers given his size.

What does Bent need to do to get into the squad - score more goals than any other Englishman in the premiership? - check. Have quality pace? - check. Add a different edge to te squad by playing off the last man? (always good for early stage games where it's all going to be packed midfields) - check. and Sven still doesn't take him.

Mind you I'm a bit biased on that last point as a full call up would've meant £400,000 for the mighty (yet skint) Ipswich Town.

He won't play, and in any case who else would you take as third choice?

He can play loads of positions, that's why he's in. I wouldn't have taken him though, or Jenas. I'd have taken an extra striker plus Kevin Nolan.

You've lost me here, are you seriously trying to sugest Crouch shouldn't have made the squad? I think he should have taken 5 strikers, the 4 in there now plus Defoe and with Bent or Ashton on standby. But Crouch would have been straight in after Rooney and Owen. He gives the team something completely different (not just his height, he holds the ball up better than any of the others as well) and he CAN score goals. Agree on his heading though, that should be better.

Im with Paulie on this one. We need to be able to change things up when teh chips are down and crouchy can cause defenders tolose concentration because he's so big also his touch is good and he's started to be able to link up with other strikers

although we could really do with another striker[/quote]

If yer having Green then you may as well have the Sunderland keeper. I'd maybe even plump for Richard Wright. This is probably one of my more irrational prejudices- but I dislike green instantly as a Norwich player, so it probably colours my opinion a bit much.

Hargreaves - still - wouldn't take him, at all. He's not up to much as far as I can see. I would rather've gambled on Ledley King as a possible than taking Hargreaves, can play defense or a holding role, and there's enough cover of the rest of midfield positions in the squad as far as I can see, failing King I would've had Richardson (probably would've had him over Lennon actually).

I really don't feel Crouch is a world class player. I would rather've taken Defoe + Bent or Ashton. He's good at Holding it up, but never seems to control it that well, the games where I've seen him live - and admittedly that's only a couple this season he's not impressed with movement. As well (even though we've got Beckham, Stevie G, and Lamps) he seems t always need a completely inch perfect ball as he just can't run fast enough to get on the end of things a bit ahead of him.

Because he has a light touch for a big lad.

...and various other cliches

I think Crouch has proven himself this season at Liverpool, before this season I had him down as a lanky freak and nowt else but he has got a good touch and he can run with the ball (even if it is like a girl  ) and still get a decent shot on goal.... Hargreaves ?? I dont get that.... Surely theres a better option?

and I might be biased about this one but Scotty Parker has had an amazing season for us this year and surely deserved a place in the squad.

Lol.

It's weird how I have a lot of time for Palace now there's no direct competition. This time last year I had the rare and novel pleasure of accosting a few CP fans in the pub before the last game of the season and wishing them good luck! Something I thought would never happen back in the day.

I don't think there's a single person in the country who's like "phew, thank god he's taking Hargreaves, we'll be alright now". Not even Owen Hargreaves himself. Like someone wrote in yesterday's Times, if he'd played for Birmingham City the last five years not Bayern Munich would he EVER have been picked? Classic big-club bias.

He's not that bad. A good utility player. But yeh, I would've taken another striker instead.

I second that motion. I was gonna post that but good ol' NirZ beats me to it.

How Defoe is not in is a mystery even to me a humble toon fan. Stand by?? Him or Bent surely. I hope Walcott plays well cos there will be pressure on him like it or not, it's the world cup finals after all. If we can get through the early stages Owen will do us proud, and hopefully Shrek will recover from his foot.

Proly the best centre midfield pairing in the world bar non. (Parker should still be included in the squad... (even though he's knacked at the minute)grrr)

Who's that then? If it's Gerrard and Lampard, they don't play very well together do they? I'd drop that clown Beckham, play Gerrard were he plays at club level and put Carrick in the centre.

This has been my argument for ages..make Terry captain as well...

I thought Wes Brown was a bit unlucky not even to get standby..he's been in excellent form recently and as well as being an excellent centreback, he's a very good right back..

I'll never understand the selection of Hargreaves..he's never impressed me..

the only solution to the goalie problem is to get peter schmeical an english passport.

You're having a laugh! SWP is useless! Lennon is ten times the player based on appearances this season, you cant select a football team based on ancient history. I agree Sven's team isnt the best it could be though. :?

I mean on paper they are arguably the best pair in the world. Playing together wise not yet, although this could be the stage that things click for them. And all good players can adapt. I'm not really bothered who plays there as long as they do the business. And that goes for everywhere on the pitch.

Amen, and stop this Owen as vice captain business. He's a great goal scorer, but he's always up in the final third and can't really do all the bossing and inspirational business when Beckham goes off. Give vice captain to a midfielder - Gerrard or Lampard.
