I saw Derrick May & Stacey Pullen in... '95, or '96. I had been into electronic music and djing for about 3 years up til that point. Talk about going to school! I had always been buying techno, enjoying the mystique of it, but hearing it direct from the source that nite, it both answered alot of questions i had, and pretty much changed my perception of what i was doing personally. It was the real deal. SOUL. Derrick May entered with the greatest epic djing intro i've ever heard, teasing us with the kick for what it seemed to be a good 9 minutes, and the break downs he was doing throughout the set simply juggling the percussions was astouding. You don't walk out of an experience like that feeling complacent. It was great.

Octave One, big influence on moi

Silent Phase - as mentioned, Stacy Pullen, both as a dj and producer, Kosmic Messenger, Black Odyssey etc.

Alien FM - course another Aux 88 joint production. There was a radio dj in Vancouver, Canada, named Don Chow who had the most amazing, then somewhat obscure techno trax. I remember hearing Alien FM on his show.. wow. Apparantly he had Derrick May as a guest on his show in the late 80's. Any older CiTR Radio listeners from Vancouver will recall the name.... who might be lurking on dubstepforum ha. A shot in the dark.

Alan Oldham - noice

Pow Wow Records compilations

early Tresor joints

and old FNAC trax, SCAN X, Deep Side,.... some of the first records i ever bought.

Much prefer the Birmingham sound to anything out of Detroit apart from some of Mills' stuff.

Well, I have more than 10 techno records that came from birmingham that I like, and one from Detroit.

But thanks for advising me on what my taste should be.

hehe. That was a good one:)

Techno came from Detroit. Mike Banks, Derrick May, Robert Hood, Ritchie Hawtin, Car Craig and Jeff Mills were there from day one.

and what does this have to do with what I enjoy listening to?

What you say,Ive heard about 7456372 times from different people and its a bit presumptious. I like noisey fucked up techno(for me,the old Aphex "classics" era stuff is the best techno Ive ever heard)and like I say, outside of some of Mills' stuff, I dont hear much I like from Detroit.

Sorry :)

I'd reccomend Model 500 - Sonic Sunset, some bits of it sound almost like proto dubstep and one remix in particular (Cave Mix) has got a thunderous bass
