Ha ha. Besides 2d is released so it's not a 'dub' now.

don't really see how using a preset is any different to just sticking a dancehall vocal over a tune like seems to be popular these days.

if you take that preset out of 2d, there would just be drums. if you take the dancehall vocal out of most of tunes, there is still the bass, the hook(s), the drums etc.
thanks for your valuable contribution to the forum

concerning the topic of boomkat reviews... Out of the numerous high-quality reviews, there are a given number of some wonky ones sometimes.

i just think its very uncreative of him. going through reaktor 5 right after i bought it, i found that preset and naturally found it real catchy etc. if i thought it was alright to use one preset for the whole song i would've used that already.

the point of this thread was mostly to point out how retarded boomkat reviews are. i think if skream released a tune of him farting to a 2-step beat for 5 minutes they would be all over it.
the gushing boomkat reviews have also been discussed at length on here.

2D thread - www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=23295

as for Skream using a preset - so what? Noone else did it, the tune fucks up dances all over the world, and some of the biggest and best DJs have supported it, from Gilles Peterson to Laurent Garnier - and they are DJs who have been making people dance to records for 20+ years so I trust their judgement.

If it was so easy to turn a preset into a banger, everyone would have done it. I haven't heard anyone else do their own version...

A preset is a default sound from a piece of software

Like, when you load Reason or Fruity for the first time, that demo song comes up

I think skream is a genius because he knows its a fucking preset, but also knows that because of that all you fassys will talk about it for days, therefore hyping the tune even more..

Agree lol, Too many haters hate on skream but hes taken dubstep far from what it used to be!!

for me, it was creative of him to use it. because every other producer was too constrained by their rigid idea of what creativity is to do so. he created a new possibility, and broke the barriers of what people would or felt they could do.

furthermore, when i first heard the tune it was like nothing else happening in dubstep, it cut through fwd like nothing else in memory. it is wildly melodic and vivid, ignores the idea that dubstep needs to be massively subby, and on top of all this, discounting any questions of process, it is a completely banging tune. for me one of the best dubstep tracks of 2007 without the slightest question

Nicely put, elgato.

Bottom line is, he keeps making memorable tracks and most other people make forgettable tracks.

It doesn't matter how clever you think you're being spending hours tweaking something only you will care about. He can make something very simple that sticks in your head. He can state something in the simplest possible way and it still works.

I think he has his priorities straight and this is why I believe he has the ability to go on and make big rekkuds in other genres, while other people are still trying grinding their teeth to get their bass line filter cutoff just right...

;)
