I'm gonna ruffle a few feathers and say forget about those guys. Their stuff hasn't aged well at all. Where it's been at for a while is European dub (tends to take more influences from dnb, electro and breaks, and all the better for it).

Everyone on this forum should know about Disrupt's album Foundation Bit (and if not, shame on you). But don't stop there, steer yourself towards www.jahtari.org for loads of free 8-bit dubby lovliness. Best net label on the web imo. Also pick up "Jahtarian Dubbers Vol. 1" just released from the same camp. Seriously heavy stuff.

Also the Different Drummer label: esp. Richard Dorfmeister's 'Different Drummer Selection' cd. Aswell as artists like:

Rootah
Blue Vitriol
G-Corp
Rocker's Hifi

I'm working my way through the above right now in fact, and loving every bit of it. Sos the lack of dubstep, but i've pretty much given up now. Dub has all but vanished from it. It's a good thing i've gotten into the techno/hessle/bristol and 2-step revival stuff from trg/martyn and the like, otherwise i'm not sure i'd even be listening to dubstep outside of a club anymore! RSD sounds good though. I'll defo check him out.

Oh, and yeah, don't expect any dub sounds from anything Rusko's done for a while. He now seems to be the king of wobble. However he happen to come out with the best dub / dubby dubstep mix i've ever heard. Be sure to pick this up:

It's mostly all Rusko dubs infact. I wish he went back to that style.

DEAD FUCKING WRONG MAN. Tubby's tracks hold up very, very well to the test of time, unlike much nu-skool dub from even 10 years ago. Not to say that there's not good new stuff out there, but IMHO your statement is like saying "oh sure, you can listen to the Beatles - but they're so last year! Check out Madonna instead!"

Not at all. (You didn't seriously site Madonna as a modern equivalent of the Beatles there did you? I hope not). Unlike rock, which hasn't significantly progressed technologically in the last 40 years due to the very nature of its production, dub is is an electronic form of music and the limits to which producers can achieve are increasing all the time. It's the reason why we can listen to dubstep now, but it wouldn't have been possible not that long ago.

I'm not completely dismissing King Tubby et al. They have produced superb music that is still enjoyable today, and if you want that pure reggae dub sound, there's none better. I just think they've been surpassed, naturally, by artists since. They drew up the blueprints for dub, and without them where would we be? But it's 2008 now. Jamaicans have been set in their ways for years now, while we Europeans have mastered the art of making music with the computer, and it's all the better for it.

JA to the UK and the world man can't dismiss years upon years of history.
Lee Perry, Keith Hudson are foundation experimental producers who have and continue to inspire (FREE) minds even now.

UK has been pivotal in DUB techniques pushing into genres other than Reggae
Dennis Bovell and Mad Professor are a couple of guys who are directly involved.

I think the Live instruments Versus computer based Digital style is over, It's all music and the sound is a preference.

good call on DISRUPT and the JAHTARI stuff, i find it pretty hard to disagree with those points too, although out of respect to the foundation i don't think they're ever points i myself would dare make.



also - i can't BELIEVE there's been no mention of Scion, Rhythm & Sound etc...
