I'm no sexist thank you very much.
i am no fan of women marketing themselves in the industry by prancing around without their clothes on, trust me. it's one of my biggest pet peeves EVER (and pet peeves is a weak word for how i feel about it). but the automatic assumption that a woman who markets herself that way is talentless BECAUSE of that, i have a problem with as well.
keep in mind the reason women do this shit is because they are working in a music industry set up by men and populated with male fans. and that industry and fanbase rewards them for doing shit like this, even as it derides them for playing the game. but while many talentless attention-seekers have used this marketing method, that does not automatically mean that every woman who does it has no talent. it just means they are taking advantage of a system that has paid off for some before them, even if i personally feel that route may garner success but sadly, little respect.
so basically my only issue with your comment, is that ultimately, it is reductionist and not framed with an eye to the bigger picture. doesn't mean i think you are a horrible sexist pig or anything.

and it doesn't mean i agree with her...ahem...wardrobe choice. i think what she is doing is problematic (immeasurably so), but i refuse to demonize her using an equally problematic (and sexist) framework to reduce the choices women have to some messed up geek version of the madonna/whore either.

if anything surely its bit of health hazard catch yer nipples on the platter or something!
Luckily i dont have saggy man breasts or any desire to dj naked
More importantly are any of these competition winners playin dubstep?
No offence just i'd rather see more chat about the scottish dubstep scene in the main forum
Its good to see you've got dubstep room. I'm always surprised that edinburgh only really has one regular night Volume. Despite having big d&b scene always thought burgh heads would go more for step. Yet glasgow with barely any d&b, generally has a lot more happenin dubstep-wise.

Its like regular drum and bass, except you get glassed, called a fanny-heid and bought a whisky.
Also it rains more.

I agree with you, and apologise.
I do reserve the right to make ill thought out comments that aren't framed with an eye to the bigger picture though

i think we all throw out shallow flippant snarkizm from time to time. this one just brought an issue to the forefront that i actually think about a lot, yanno? nothing wrong with good discussion.
p.s. re:the original post. i do also have to add that my original response to this thread was gonna be that it is total dnb spam on the main forum and i think that is perhaps a no-no.

Congratulations to HarKonnen; the forth winner of the VIP DnB mix competition.
A finalist in last years Pangea DJ competition, HarKonnen has previously co-hosted a Sub City show called "Ruin It" and is also a regular guest on Sub City Drum and Bass show "Armed Response".
His current sets include personal re-edits of tracks, and enjoys merging new technology and productions tools with traditional vinyl DJing.
It was a tough decision to choose just four winners and with that in mind congratulations are also due to Retrend; he’ll be warming everyone up in the back room with a dubstep set.
http://www.myspace.com/retrend
Retrend has been playing local DnB gigs in St Andrews and Inverness for the past 5 years, however this will be his first gig with a headliner and his first experience of playing dubstep out. All the more reason to get there early.
Thank you to everyone who sent their mixes in. Watch out for the flyer coming out soon.

Dn'b nights i've been to in edinburgh have almost always been pretty good as dn'b goes, but i'm getting a little tired of it! Wish there was a bigger dubstep scene in scotland!
Anyway, Termite is good. I've seen her play a couple of times and always enjoyed it.
I'd totally make it to this, but i'm going to be down in london at dmz!

was probably the best night ive had in scotland ever, quality vibes, some rowdy tunes with some nice rollers too, sound system was awesome, shall definitely be at the next one.
My mate pete was playing in the vip bar up the stairs, was pretty pish that they kept the volume so quiet there but apart from that i couldnt really have asked for a better night!
Biggups Street Knowledge!
