Whats the difference between sparkling and carbonated? and which one is which? because Coke Zero looses its fizzy dizzy reallly! quickly

i got told when i worked at a supermarket by my manager that they were actually the same drink, dieat coke is just marketed more towards girls, so they released coke zero to like, aim it more towards guys...
dunno how reliable this is, but it kinda makes sense, diet coke is kinda girly, just think of the adverts for them both...
