As for old school/ new school Bristol ... Rob Smith (Smith and Mighty) is going under RSD these days afaik, (not that I'm familiar with any of his recent stuff), but he played at FWD for the Bristol takeover a couple of weeks ago and played some amazing tunes! So it seems some peeps have never gone away!
2008 is defo going to be a brilliant year for music in the West country... especially with this year's new Bristol Festival in September... featuring only artists from Bristol and the South West. Home-Grown talent baby, showing how its done gurt proper!
