Don't start panicing yet. You can have tinnitus for a while and it still be temporary. Rest your ears for a while...see how it goes.

like luke said del, it hasnt been 48 hours yet. honestly, my brother (in a moment of idiocy) went to a dream theater concert and sat next to the speaker. he had muffled hearing for a week, then it came back..

whether or not he had some damage remains to be seen, but everything sounds fine to him.

tinnitus is long term - give yourself a little time and just chill - as stressing yourself out is only gonna make you feel worse :)

you'll be fine.

ok i'm on about 60 hours now and it's not faded... i kinda optimistically thought i'd wake up this morning and it'd be gone :(

good thing is that so far when i try to go to sleep it kinda... settles down to sounding like loud room tone, and i'm cool with room tone cos i got used to putting it into cash in the attic and escape to the country as atmos base... so i can sleep ok.

right now 48 hours has passed i'm gettin optimistic about 'give it a week' instead lol

had tinnitus for about 3 years now... i think it's partly caused by teeth clenching in my sleep since the nightguard i got for that eases the tinnitus a bit. but yeah, stress will aggravate it. just try not to listen to yourself think too much. 8)

tinnitis... shit man, i feel for you...

I have had tinnitus for roughly 4 years now. picked it up when I was just 17... obviously down to years of severe headphone abuse (i used to listen to shit FAR too loud) It really freaked me out at first aswell, because I didnt know what it was, for 6 months I couldnt sleep. But yes, it does get better. After it was explained to me what it was and the fact there is no cure, you learn to live with it. Now everything seems normal, its just there, a part of your day. Only difference is I have to go to sleep with some music on or the tv on to stop me hearing this "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!" hehe.

I cling onto reports that in later life, people's tinnitus just pops and disappears, and also clinging onto this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7175306.stm

so hold tight... in the future they will have robot ears to implant and we can then all claim to be cyborgs ;)

in short, its rough, it gets better and your not alone.

its all in the plugs :)

easy now.

edit: anyway... 48 hours, still might pass... hopefully

I've had it off and on all my life :o

Doesn't bother me too much, but I've still got great hearing so I might get plugs soon, in time for the festivals. Can anyone recommend a good place to get the moulded ones?

i heard from my old sound engineering tutor theres not a cure but you can sort of slowly 'train' your ear 'around' the frequency or something. something to do with the hairs in your ears 'sleeping' at that particular hz.

open a daw and create some sound tones. make the selection smaller till you find the tone your hearing and it does something... maybe. it would be more useful if i remembered the conversation. if i was in the same situation i'd look into /try it anyway if there was no other cure. hope it all clears up anyway.

this sounds like a theory I thought of.

play a tone similar to that of your tinnitus, reverse the signal, pitch up or down until you cant hear the ringing. never tried it out, but as far as I know this is how some noise cancellnig earphones work.

i don't think everyone clearly seems to know what tinnitus is exactly seeing some people think it just fades away or can be cured right now.
tinnitus is permanent ear damage and to be taken seriously.
because of loud noise the little hairs in your ears get damaged and don't stand up like they should anymore, this causes the signal interuptment that gives you the bleeping you'll hear forever (it doesn't go away at all)
from then on, things can only get worse if you don't try to protect what's left of your hearing.
incredible that there's people thinking something is to be laughed with here.
so delendi, i hope it's just false alarm and it's just beeping noise for a little longer than normal after a night out.

i wouldn't be too worried about it del. the fact that you've got ringing does mean that some permanent damage has done but i'm sure it'll fade with time, i know mine did. and as someone said it gets worse with stress so the fact that you're worrying about it probably isn't helping

definitely do what you can to protect your ears though (that's to everyone out there)

i'm not really stressed... i'm quite calm actually. my big fear was always not being able to sleep and i haven't had any trouble. plus i'm still living in hope that it goes away!

not so calm anymore... feeling pretty depressed. it got to me at work earlier cos i could hear it a lot and before i could only hear it when i went in the toilets and it was quiet etc. then i put my earplug in too quick and the air pressure really hurt, even for a while after i took it out. that shit really scared me. feeling less and less optimistic about it going away.

thank you wiggle and contakt. i really hope the 48 hour thing kicks in and it's gone when i wake up tomorrow. but i've never had it last even 12 hours before so i'm feeling pretty negative.
It may be weird, but try to sleep a lot, somewhere mad quiet. A lot of time that helps my random tinnitus.
