sometimes i just smoke to make noises and sing along and shit
production isnt all about making beats its also about relaxing and jamming to something just for the hell of the moment

usually i start messing about with drums and find sounds
but then i gotta smoke when i start the beat, it puts my mind elsewhere, which is where a song should take you, so it helps me visualize the audio in my head
then i usually go back and add some more things after i sober up a bit and mix it a little better (when im high i mix badly)
then its back to smoking to finish off the beat and add detail and dynamics

my old pattern:
work 10 hr shift
come home engineer sounds and layer drums and make kits for use in future tunes in head
days off:
track tunes into reality, sketch out ideas, then mix down
current: quit job, fuck it 100% music time and getting fucked up

then back on reason
its quite depressing thinking that all i do is smoke weed and produce

Music production is so addictive because, as most arts, it lets you out emotions that are impossible to transcribe otherwise.

Yes man, I'm sat at work right now all I want to do is get home and get on the beats... Been making tunes for a few years now been involved in music since i was 14 but I've ended up going to deep in to my career and now I dont get enough time to dedicate to music. So I've decided to turn it on its head get a less stressful job and give myself more time to focus... watch this space
EDIT-- and to answer the question to me its addictive because you get so much out of it, not only in the process and achievment of making a piece of music but the fact others can appreciate your efforts. To watch a dance floor moving to your beats, thats a buzz you cant pay for...
