heheh....

this was taken somewhere in europe...

flip-floppin their way into clipping paradise...
here's a quote from their manager regarding the loudness issue:

"There's something exciting about the sound of this record that people are responding to."

however, he forgets to say that the response is not good :-)

There is excitement during the riot that happens when you pull a fire alarm at a movie theatre and start opening fire on the people as they come running out, too... that doesn't make it good ;)

i actually think load was the real death of metallica.
I recon Load was better than the black album myself. It was at least true to itself. The first 3 albums were the only really good ones for me. But the Black album is just caught in no mans land between the two sounds. Load may be a ear friendly, slightly popish album, but at least it revels in it and does it properly, it does it to the max. Black album was like half commercial melodic music and half still trying to be Metallica as we knew them when Cliff was still onboard (no pun intended). Reload on the other hand was just plain awfull. I can still listen to and enjoy Kill em, Ride, Puppets and Load, the others are just horrible. S&M was also fantastic imo. The music aside, James Hetfields voice changed at some stage making it impossible to keep their original sound. He has a real evil rasp to his voice on the first 3 albums, after that his vocal chords started to get too strong and he developed the operatic quality to his voice, he just cant do the thrash vocals anymore.

abZ wrote:That looks like it would hurt to listen to. For more than one reason. To think when I was a kid, I thought Metallica was the best ever. They should have disbanned when Cliff died. Actually I dig Garage Days and Justice, but after that they are dead to me. At least dance music isn't the only ones that are victims of the loudness wars. All I listen to anymore is stuff from the late 60's to mid 70's. It's amazing how beautifully recorded those albums where compared to today. Shame on everyone.
