I quite like Lil' Wayne. His flow is good, and he's established a fairly distinctive and recognisable 'personality'. The only problem is - as intricate as his rhymes may be at times - he really doesn't have a whole lot to say. His observations and opinions are, on the whole, rather shallow and limited mostly to asserting how rich he is and how everyone (supposedly) thinks he's the 'greatest rapper alive'.
Also, sidebar: can everyone just STOP USING AUTOTUNE. Seriously. Enough, No more. No mas.

i swear his dad is a famous rapper aswell.
So i suppose he dosent have much to rap about...he probably has jeeves wipe his arse for him.
His life was probably really fuckin easy...didnt have to do any work to get into the music game he just lived off his dad till he got heard

This thread is genius.
I bet u lot knocking Wayne all like stories that begin with 'once upon a time' Lyrical content is not point... THE MEDIUM IS THE MESSAGE.
Am I the only one that finds it funny that someone with 'jaH' in their name is tekin the piss outta people usin 'Lil' in theirs?
re; the confusion between Rap & hip-hop. Wayne knows what hip-hop is, a brand used to shift product. Repping hip-hop is like repping Nike.
Go learn about the transition from Uptown Culture to Hip-Hop & the driving forces behind that before you start tellin people about ur backpackers

Superior MC's for sure. But it's a false analogy as Wayne doesn't really exist in the same world as those rappers. Really the only comparison I can think of would be Ghostface - someone who, in many ways, is more of 'character' than an MC. They both have IMO good flows and are, on occasion, capable of some impressive wordplay but they're both kind of whores as well, doing a million different guest spots recycling the same old material.

id prefer to be labeled as a backpacker if it means i can relate to the lyrics and content of the music. alot of mc's have dope flow's but aint really saying much. i know sometimes the 'aesthetic' of the sound is the whole point but im not convinced. the majority of the fans who listen cant even relate to being rich as fuck and having endless supplies of this and that.

It's a shame Lil Wayne can't fit eight hundred syllables into one line like El-P, definitely. Also, I wish his tunes were more like sixth form poetry set to music like Slug's.
