True and most artists would run the risk, but label owners are not so happy to take the risk of a fine that could close the label.

That's your call really, depends how you're going to release it and what exactly you want to do with the tune.

Going to get some vynls pressed and sell them in record shops, also maybe sell digital downloads only bout 100 copies tho. Cheers.

dubstep isnt underground anymore. if someones going to release a track to get played on the radio or in clubs, bare stuff needs to happen. im talking about proper release, not a few vinyls, maybe like tempa, or hyperdub, argon. to use a sample, need to pay for it, or at least clear it with the publisher that holds the copyright for it. to get played on the radio, the radio station needs a licence and also needs to pay royalties, and also... very unlikely to get played on the radio unless samples are cleared. to get played in clubs, same thing needs to happen really, club needs to pay a blanket licence to cover any copyright fees. but then of course, i doubt a publisher will actually just sit in a club and wait for an uncleared copyright

you sya that, and sometimes its true but was Japan ever played on radio? I got 2 Burial Cds here, and theyre full of stolen vocals and sounds from both films and modern rnb tunes etc, and theres no talk of 'track blah contains a sample from yada yada' in any of the inlays. It SHOULD happen and if the sample is blatantly obvious and ur doing a big release on CD then sometime su wont be able to get away with it but more often than not it doesnt happen, its seriously rare. Somene like the Prodigy will clear the majority of their samples (but still not all of them), when it comes to Dubstep, Drum n Bass etc 99% of samples wont be cleared. Esp words from films no ones gonna clear those.

What about a whole remixed tune a la 6blocc - uptown ranking or sister nancy bam bam? What's the course when an entire old school track is over dubbed and re-released. Surely those original artists get royalties, right?

Sister Nancy never got a dime out of Bam Bam, from what I have read.

What bothers me is that those remixes are always released with no mention of the original artist, even though I understand it must be for (il)legal reasons...
