what?
eg: megatripolis @ heaven.
3 floors: 1 hard, 1 psychedelic and 1 lecture-room.
so we could find out about old stonehenge festivals and listen to the comforting dreams of wizened sociopaths.

btw: i meant to say "mind-enhancing" rather than "mind-altering" but in the heat of the moment i had a sudden flashback and realised that nothing is enhanced or degraded, only changed.
then i grinned at the table awhile, like it had always been there with its eternal self-evident is-ness, but i'd only ever seen it as a way of keeping cups of tea within arm's reach. good old table. "Table," it's obvious, really.

some hours later i was disturbed from my buddhic catatonia by a rustling sound at the window. wondering what on earth it could be, i opened the curtains a little and peered through.
nothing in my life could have prepared me for the following moment, before my eyes stood something i had never seen or heard of before, but which yet seemed strangely familiar.
i was convinced that it was sentient, i'm not sure how, and that moreover that it was aware of my own sentience.
i have struggled in vain ever since to recall its actual physical appearance, or if indeed it even had one, but i remember thinking it looked like something i could only describe as, some kind of robotic-gnome.
it glittered with metallic sheen and was very hard looking. a slightly green/purple effulgence was present and etched all over its outer casing were these intricate purposeful patterns, like aztec circuit boards. i sensed that it would be cold to the touch, but its eyes were hot like gems from the hearts of stars.
in many other ways, however, it looked exactly like a gnome. big beard and everything.

"ah," it said, telepathically, "you have spotted me."
"what are you?" i asked, "and what are you doing in my garden?"
"hmm..." pondered the robotic-gnome's mind-essence "tricky question, that. we robotic-gnomes do not usually reveal our identity or purposes to humans as their feeble earthly consciousness is rarely capable of apprehending such truths without imploding... however in this instance i sense that it should be o.k."
it then revealed to me some fascinating details about robotic-gnomes and their ongoing observation of life on earth from a perspective of relentless objectivity.

"very interesting," i said, when i could get a word in, "so, where do you come from, originally."
"ah..." said the robotic-gnome, "where we come from is the real world, that's where. you see, what you call 'life' is in fact merely a game, just a game. that's all."
"crikey!" i said, "so how does one go about winning this game you speak of?"
"ho ho." said the robotic-gnome, and followed that with, "there are no winners or losers in this game, naive human. what happens is, at a certain time, various people are selected on the basis of their performance within the game and taken off to the real world which is much nicer than here. they are chosen based on various qualties which will be essential in the real world so they don't go and ruin everything, which is what happened once before, hence the game."
"oh, right, i think i might have heard of this before somewhere." i said, "and what would be a good way to draw favourable attention from the panel?"
"ah..." said the robotic-gnome, " now that is quite important to get right, because of course, the list will be limited to a certain proportion of humankind's population at that time. that was ek78543r's idea..."
"oh, you have names, then?" i asked.
"no, i have just one name." the robotic-gnome replied, testily, " anyway, we all thought that was a splendid suggestion; wheat from the chaffs and all that. so if you want to stand a chance of getting away from the dreary nonsense that goes on around here, i can offer you one piece of advice, and that is, to be successful you must do well. if you do well, well will you do, and success won't be far behind."

"well," i said, "there you go then." and a curious idea entered my mind, if i could take in my hands a part of this experience, and in the cold light of day bring it out and show others, i could make an absolute fortune. maybe i could quickly yank off a clump of beard, or better still, one of its eyes.
i lunged towards that robotic-gnome but the window-pane was there between us and my forehead struck it and rang like a bell. this is probably why i was still out-cold on the floor when my landlord arrived the following afternoon.
tomorrow i'm going to start making snares and traps and maybe buy some asbestos gloves. you can't let an opportunity like that pass you by.
you got to be smart.

I prefer bed wetting music.

And yeah IDM seems like just about the shittest name (am sure it is a name from the USA headz isnt it?!?)
this is exactly my thoughts, only a country that invented dance music yet does not understand it, could come up with such an ill-fitting label.

As others have stated in their posts, i also have no problem with the music, so i'm not IDM bashing, but the very artists who compose such music dont even refer to themselves as 'IDM'

cease with this horrible onslaught of musical imperialism are you not happy with relentlessly feeding us with crass and offensive rnb and rap via the means of mtv bass, now you want to try and intelectualise a music you have never embraced.

i was happy with my dreamscape tapes....we dont need another pseudo intellectual tag for music.

I haven't heard anything even vaguely electronica-ish thats moved on in the last 10 years. People play me stuff and it sounds EXACTLY the same.

I'm just glad my brother bought so much warp/rephlex-style stuff in the early 90s. I'm selling it on ebay and making a small fortune, which I will spend on silk gowns and hair pieces made out of tiger rump.

I dont like the term IDM because it implies that other dance music is not intelligent. Like EVERYONE else is making dumb music. What elitists pricks.
