and i would not recommend using ns10's as main monitors the ear fatigue and the lack of bass dosn't suit electronic music esp dubstep.

i highly doubt there the same drivers(with highly poisonous berylium tweeters), cabinet construction or cross over design.

the crossover design made ns10's reputation and to a large extent were the only good thing about them.

horrible speakers though in general.


and grime.. ahem one of the most poorly mixed genre's so i won't be taking advise from it :-p

If you are using subs you must acoustically treat your room first or your mixes will be fucked up IMO. Besides your neighbors will be PISSED. I am looking to get a top of the line pair of headphones for mixing. The best ones out there will come cheaper than a decent pair of speakers and way more accurate.

if you dont have the cash to spend on a decent set of monitors (824hr, or similar)....you could spend your money alot better on some high end cans and mix in them

ultrasone are badass for mixing down in, and arent too rough on the walet....check the hfi series, they are win!

I use AE22 active monitors. Highly recommend them. They are more like £800 - £900 though so they aren't cheap!

After testing Dynaudio speakers (I had my heart set on them as well) against Acoustic Energy - AE22 in my studio I went for the AE22.

They have an amazing, punchy sound and have great treble, mid and bass.
Stereo image is excellent too. They are very revealing and you really can hear those transients. (with the ae22 speakers its about timing, read their website to really KNOW about the NS10 and why they were great monitors!)

BUT, because of there upfront and punchy sound they can be a bit fatiguing at loud levels for extended periods of times. Not really a problem if listening at a sensible level s anyway.

The Dynaudio had a BIG bass, but it was there all the time and didn’t quite seem real to me. Also, the sound was too laid back for me and almost dull sounding. But they are highly rated speakers so its personal preference really and I would advise to test a few pairs if you can.

dynaudio too, bbc use dynaudios and they pretty much set the standards.

I use NS10M's in my studio all the time for mixing all sorts of music from breakcore to jazz and classical. If you can get a tune to sound shit hot on them, it'll sound fantastic on pretty much any system ha ha! but I do have another 2 speaker systems to reference on as well as they do kill your ears after a few hours of mixing.....

i went for ADAM A7s, cost about 500 quid for the pair

that and get some spikes for the sub to sit on to avoid pissing off the neighbors as much
