few points for this thread:

nelly furtado, charmillionaire, cassie, christina, beyonce

all fantastic tracks imhp, produced by some of the best producers in the world right now.

i could listen to the cassie track everyday for the rest of my life and not get bored of it.

but hell, i'm a popist. i do feel jaded by this notion that if something is popular it can't be good. are you people the same people who are getting pissed off with the popularity of dubstep? FFS!

Yeah I am really feeling that Cassie song. I like pretty much everything you have listed here boom. I just have little a trouble with Christina mostly because I don't like her personality very much (pretty trivial actually)- Its cool that premier produced a good part of her new album though.. I love pop music as well. I do understand where the anti top 40 people are coming from but to not like something cuz its popular- is downright unreasonable imo.

Are you Jaded by the jaded notion though? lol
Come on . Every form of music is strieving for acceptance in one foem or a nother. There for it is pop music. It requiers an audience.

go ahead, give it a listen. theres GOTTA be something good there for ya. lol!

by the way, do the rednecks over there in the uk (you got them, every country has em, dont lie) have thier own music genre?

yeah i was very surprised when i heard chris martin had produced her new one ;) that single though, bit indebted to rich harrison imho.

@metalbox - of course i'm somewhat stating the obvious and that there's perhaps little cause to. i wear the 'all music is pop music' strapline on my sleeve.

in balance i should say there is a lot of crap in the charts i can't even begin to understand, let alone like. but to be fair there are a lot of people who do, which is enough justification for the existence of it.

if you start critisising the 'tastes of the masses' then you are entering dangerous territory.

this is a really interesting question but i'm struggling to think what the answer is. will think about it...

i think the answer is no.. but i'm not entirely sure why. perhaps it's geographical reasons: backwards, small-minded brits don't all live in one part of the country (first person to say 'the home counties' gets a lol), hence they haven't evolved their own distinct culture so much as redneck deep south hick stuff.

our 'rednecks' probably listen to anything from coldplay to house. an isolated few of them, it seems from this forum, listen to dubstep :-|

i like pop music actually - the production is wicked on loads of tunes, and to be honest most of it is not really that annoying anymore, it serves a purpose and aint going away you may as well learn to enjoy it
