I understand why people are bit annoyed, the magazine is making it sound like there is a formula to making Dubstep.

they do it will all styles. that's what they do as a magazine.

but it's not like they're saying there's a formula. they are just saying here are sounds that you could use to make this genre of music. snares, bass etc. and it's useful and a half-decent starting point for a certian formula.

but then the real creativity always comes from the individual. you could make a killer track using the samples I am sure - but it wouldn't be the samples that would make it, it would be the individual

allow it!

you know what, if it encourages people to syncopate beats and play around with rhythms again as well as get SUB bass down right, then I'm all fucking for it.

Yeah, it's a UK magazine so there's usually quite a bit of delay for issues to show up on US shelves.

agreed. Though, i have to say that out of all the mags, Tape Op blows even SOS out of the water. and it's free.

my point is it's accessible to people who want to learn to produce but dont have £10k to spend on hardware or high end Protools etc. Need me to draw pictures for you next time?
Its a stupid comment Black, I dont need a picture to explain that son! Yet again a classic comment by someone who claims to know but by making comments like that shows just how dumb he is!

Sound on sound is a studio mag, computer music is a mag based around producers who work on pc's..... Clue is in the name!
i explained it twice, you still didnt get it: perhaps you shouldnt be calling people stupid.

You explination is stupid Black! Would you like me to draw you a pic.....! Its a computer mag aimed at producers who use computers! Not cos they dont have 10K to spend on a studio! LOL Maybe you should be saying stupid things you clearly know nothing about!

I mean to say sound on sound is a better mag is such a spaz thing to say! Its geared at acustic producers, band producers not.....COMPUTER producers.....

The clue my friend is in the name, I'd have thought someone as clever as you could work that out!

can understand why you guys would hate this but i think it aint a bad idea for people to get into dubstep with 'cos how else they gonna learn how to make decent tunes in the genre without learning the basics?

ROFL. I'm tempted to put that in my signature...

yeh I saw this mag (in LA) a couple months ago. apparently they run this sort of feature for every genre so I'm not worried about it. imo there's enough bland dubstep coming out these days that this shouldn't make much of a difference.

You're about as wrong as it's possible to be here I'm afraid.

lol@...

"1466 dubstep samples, comprising dark beats, powerful bass and twisted sounds"

this isn't geared towards beginners? sound on sound is standard for anyone interested in recording, engineering, etc.

Computer Music isn't in any way a serious production mag.

I didn't read the article in depth, but it actually didn't mention wobble much, if at all!

anyone hating on it before reading it is kinda foolish IMO.

i mean, dubstep is def not a template, and should happen naturally rather than being forced IMO.

here is my guide to making dubstep

tempo = 138-142
drums.
sounds.
sub bass.
syncopation.
dub mindset.
step mindset.

the end

I don't think it deserves any hating. The article could have been made a LOT worse, and it also gives readers a nice background on dubstep which is always helpful... if anything it'll get more people into producing tracks, and probably make less crappy tracks.
