say i want to cut about 10 tracks... at $50 for two sides, that's about $250 plus the $8 or so for shipping(i believe dubstudio has flat rate shipping - badass)

now, $260 isn't bad when you consider you would have almost a full set of really good sounding tunes that no one has - throw the essential tunes of the moment/past in there, and you will easily have a memorable set.

plus, dubplates have a longer playable lifespan - i'm not talking about wear and tear, but the fact that not every dj is rocking them day and night... you can keep the same tracks and play them out at different venues, for different crowds, and it's still gonna tear the place up. when you buy a 12, or play a 320 that everyone has, it's only good for about a week, or at least that's how i feel. worth the money imo, maybe when i have some of that money, i'll get some cut! until then, i'm making more and more tunes and they're sounding better and better!

side note: every time i see a dj put a dubplate on, it gives me hope that i won't soon resort to playing on a laptop. i still buy and play vinyl, and i never want to stop!

if you think about it, the 500+ you spend on serato can get you 20 dubplates(10 w/ 2 sides)... not bad if you ask me.

a good DJ knows when NOT to fiddle with the tunes imho! think about the hours of prescision synthesis, programming, mixing and mastering youre leaving behind when throwing that horrible VST over the mix

Yeah, good prices - $30/ per 10" acetate, $8 flat rate shipping. Just ordered a few from 'em, waiting for them in the mail. Heard rly good things.

yes mate! agree with all of this! especially the fact that the tunes have a longer lifespan, and mint to have tunes no one else has! gotta love it!

also youd be surprised how good your tunes can sound when cut to acetate, all of mine have sounded twice as weighty! its redonkulous!

Horses for courses that, though, innit. You wouldn't ask the Scratch Perverts not to "fiddle with the tunes" would you?

Likewise having exclusives. A great DJ can play a dynamite set with all familiar material if their mixing, pacing, sense of drama etc is all present and correct.

Dubstep DJing styles have developed from dubplate culture and it is particularly suited to a subtle mixing style with vinyl/plates BUT that doesn't mean that great things can't and won't be done by spinners operating with other media and styles.

Acetate isn't vinyl...You'd be hard-pressed(no pun intented) to find any vinyl in the hands of N type, caspa, Skream, hatch, benga, etc...

Kind of funny that saying, always had a laugh at it when Hatcha would say it because its not only a really dumb mantra, but since he doesnt play vinyl the irony is oh-so delicious.

woah! steady on! i dont recall insulting anyone! im sick of being insulted for playing dubplates and vinyl from djs i have met when playing out! i dont care what people use! ure bringing the aggy!

no disrespect to all the good producers using serato/ableton etc and playing their own tunes,however i believe that part of deejaying culture is finding that elusive/rare 12 inch that almost no one else owns, crate digging is important

hey, it wasn't meant personally, i promise. just a general response to the constant back and forth. you just happened to be the one who triggered it. and it was meant just as much for anyone who gives you shit for playing dubplates as it is for people who get all bent about digital djing.

well, don't forget that many of us who play with a digital format, still have pretty massive collections of vinyl as well.

i like vinyl and i think i will leave it at that, a lot of good music only gets released digitally which is a shame (Juakali's ep for example, would love to own it on wax)


although i do think that the music should come first and the format second

Just ordered my first dubplate at dubstudio Anyone's got any idea when to expect it? Live in belgium so shipping might take 3-4 days..
Really curious about the way my tunes will sound after proper mastering & stuff

I dont think this is fair at all. To say that Serato/Cd's isnt "doing it properly" is ridiculous.

He didn't say that those weren't doing it properly... he said that cutting dubs and paying that extra bit of money pays off in the end, and that the end result justifies the means. HENCE, doing it properly.
