I have never lost anything with Live. I only started using it with the release of 7 tho. Knock on wood. Even if that did happen to me I don't think I would switch, I like it too much. I can always write another tune, no big whoop. I am already done with Reason so I wouldn't go with that. I don't like FL. I guess my second and third choices would be Tracktion and Reaper not necessarily in that order.

renoise !!

i really like FL for its ease of use and intuitive GUI, and reason is the best for just learning all about how synthesis and sequencing works... but once i took the (relatively short) time to learn some of the ins and outs of renoise, it is much easier to do most things in renoise than it is in FL or reason. renoise is really great if you like being really specific with your sequencing and with triggering effects at certain times.

personally i'm not really a vst kind of person... used to use them a lot but they don't really fit well with the way i like to go about making tunes, so i usually just fuck about with samples.

also renoise is fun for banging out cheesy oldskool hardcore tracks with lots of hoovers and stabs

I've been using Live since version 3 came out and I never had it corrupt any track, despite many crashes.

Quite, the contrary, it's always a real gentleman and after a crash asks if I want the project I was working on, restored from the saved undo history. Thank you.

Always been a diehard Cubase user, lately (like literally these past few weeks) been messing with Live though and I'd love to make it my main DAW if I can work out my last few ******.

I use Ableton Live as well.

They have a really sophisticated copy-protection scheme, I would either buy it or prepared to keep going through this over and over.

£10 Bag wrote:Microsoft Paint for all my pads,
ImageReady for bass & synths,
Illustrator for wave editing,
Photoshop for drums,
Paint Shop Pro for sequencing and VST implementation

Sometimes I'll bust out uTorrent, Outlook Express, VLC Media Player, MagicDisc, ImgBurn, DaemonTools, OpenOffice, FontCreator or WinRAR though.

Used to dedicate myself to the FL back in the day... but now I've moved onto Cubase. It gives me more freedom to make what I want.

I'm thinking of using FL again to make loops to import into Cubase - I find making beats on Cubase such a mission.

I've also dabbled with Ableton Live.. but mainly to try and make 'live' versions of my tracks, to not much success. I haven't used it to produce tho, I don't see it's potential - I just see annoyance.

live will only corrupt your project files if you are using a crack, as far as i know. fair enough IMO
