really useful to hear your mixdown thru a rig before it's finalised because i find it is easy to overdo subs so much that itll fuck up everything else in the bass region. or to underdo them so theres not enough oomph. its hard to tell just from a spec analyser.
another solution is to get a really good sounsystem in your car and have it balanced properly by a good car audio person.

TeReKeTe, good sub bass knowledge i must say

don't believe the numbers. load up a 40hz sine wave in a tone generator in your DAW and see if you can hear it. chances are, you can. use that as a guide....

and a decent pair of headphones will let you judge what's going on in the super lows as well. I always loved the hd25's I use for DJing because the sound between those and our Sub Swara residency @ Love was really, really similar. the $200 beyers are more balanced but even the cheapo audio-technica cans i keep around as a backup have a lot of good info in the lows.

Yeah, they probably are lol. I prefer the open back 990's but either way a blinding set of studio cans that'll out live my cat, sorry mogster

maybe for eq's, but cans are always kinda hyped, and defintely don't make dynamics judgements in them.

if you can get a mix sounding bangin-- albeit different-- on both, yr in the clear.

GRR jealous jealous jealous :P

I went and asked peverelist in rooted about monitors when I was deciding on some, and he was saying that he doesn't use his monitors to mix the bass he uses analysers and then rigs.

Wish we all had the same pleasure

physical wrote:for pure sine sub bass - on whatever synth youre making the sub on, a good idea is to introduce a 2nd oscillator about 30% into the mix, set as a sine wave one octave (or 12 semitones) above your main sub bass - this gives you a bit of bass when people are listening to it on hi fi speakers etc which arent gonne be able to smack out 40hz sine waves too well at all.
what do you mean by 30% into the mix?
you got my attention because your tracks are tight kid...

Homie, I'm listening to your tracks on some cheap 10$ headphones and your toons are coming through perfectly. Good work to you! Sick toons.
Safe!
