suppose bezier curves are quicker - they look cool as well
Sometimes you can... but it's definitely quicker :)

I can't help but feel that a bunch of kids are going to buy this thinking that max is right for them.

Every production forum on the internet is going to be swamped by kids getting live 8 never having touched anything like max.

Still excited!
I am not a kid lol but no I have never used max. It is right for me because it is right there in my seq of choice... or will be anyway. So what? Even if I don't want to learn max I will be able to use what other people create right? I think that is what has me excited more than anything.

Hey man, I wasn't even talking about you or anyone in particular. But I certainly wasnt picking anyone out with my post in particular.

I think its a good idea, and I am sure if you wanted to learn max you would not be posting like some half-wit child looking for handouts you would read a manual!

Max is great, the are no limits to what you can do within ableton now!

And yes to be honest I can't utilize max as well as a lot of other people so using their stuff and modifying it to suit me works great. But I really think its going to push the possibilities of live pa.

FUCKING SICK

Cannot wait for this upgrade. Ableton be prepared to receive a lot of cash from a lot of people.

I remember when they did the 6 to 7 switch there was a period where you could get 6 cheap and then a freen upgrade to 7. worked out cheaper than buying 7 new. might be worth holding out for a similar deal?

Also, being able to integrate max in to live is gonna be sick. max is excellent because of the freedom but it's one unstable motherfucker. It's more than a little stressful to use it live.

are all those samples and instruments that you can buy extra from them any good? (like the essential instrument collection 2). i'm just starting out to produce and sometimes wonder if it would maybe be easier to use something like that, instead of using random samples off the internet and tweaking them so they work.

i hvae tried nearly all the major daws and 1 or 2 trackers. When first used ableton i was amazed by how easy it was to work with no more bullshit millions of windows to manage no more bs 20 clicks to get something done no more dodgy half assed sample loop function everything was integrated and most important of all ableton didnt get in the way of me making music.

I never had to break flow just to deal with something technical, something that wasnt related to the music i was making. i could work in the moment and not be bothered by sloppy design.

And now they come out and merge ableton with max and open up the api. I cant wait to see all the crazy diy controllers vj apps sequencers home made reactables and touch screens

With this patch ableton have opened the doors wide to the huge community of hackers diy enthusiasts programmers dsp experimenters visual artists open source hardware developers.

The distance between you and the computer just got smaller. Lets face it the midi controllers that companys make are shit i have never seen a controller that did what i needed now ableton have made it a lot easier for us to get what we want. Anything that gets us closer to playing the sequencer with the same ease that a musician plays guitar is a good thing imho.

Just have to wait and see what people make of this.

first things first i am making myself a midi step sequencer!

As for using max live, its as stable as your programming is.

this looks rather lovely. really happy about the improved complex warp and the browser waveform display with scrub. :)

Hmmm... I'd be happier if it had some defined section for EQ rotaries tbh.

I'm not sure I often have a whole load of clips all set out in advance. Certainly for live DJ sets anyway. I could do with way fewer pads/buttons.

Apparently it's £399/$399, depending on where you live. Not too bad considering the VCM-600 is now a hefty £599!

In relation to Max or Reaktor programming for use in your DAW and this new partnership with Max and Ableton. Is the fuss because a modular programming environment has became a little more accessible?

The thing that is currently being promoted by Ableton and Cycling74 seems no different to what can be achieved using Reaktor and a DAW of your choosing. Or is there something i'm missing from having the 2 together rather than using reaktor and ableton? (Max and ableton together does look good btw, but not enough for me to move from reaktors modular environment)

I've seen Reaktor used for auto-EQing in a live situation, but not much else.

And tbh, this is the first time I'd heard of Max.

Are they much cop for live sets? Sell them to me. :P

if you've never heard of max/msp then i doubt you'll know a great deal about reaktor and it's capabilities

...Our live shows are done only with our reaktor patch and custom built instruments and nothing else.

loads of artists pogramme their own patches for live performance with reaktor.

Live api support
Which means the guts of ableton have been opened up
http://forum.ableton.com//viewtopic.php?t=66118

And max ability to process visuals

So if i wanted to make a diy touch screen reactable i could and i could also control live with it. But i could control live in way that normal midi controllers could not.
The live api is what companys like mackie use to give their controllers access to live functions that normal midi controllers cant access. The first live api was not officially supported and you had to have programming knowledge (python) to make use of it. Now its much easier just to use max

"Max for Live also provides objects that allow you to access and modify the inner workings of Live. Modify the tracks, clips, notes, names and values, selection states—and pretty much anything else you can see or hear in Live. This API also allows you to access controller hardware via Live, creating new mappings that can completely repurpose a hardware device. Even if you don't know what an API is, you can still use devices that other people have built and apply them to your Live setup."

I'd love a max patch that turns the colour of triggered clips black after they've stopped. I get confused when I'm playing live what stuff I've already played out. I'm considering flogging some hardware for this. Maybe a Roland Juno and a Yamaha DX200.

The groove mapping in * loks just insane. Intuitive mapping! You can teach the program to use your 'style' as a groove template for other pieces you create.

Isn't that the point of dubbing? To put your 'style' onto the track, so people know who produced it? these new functions look :o
