Had myspace for two days - player's still not showing up which is a tad annoying (tunes still processing apparently). Did get a friend requestl from some guy who's trying to find the three wisest men on the planet for some mumbo jumbo bollox (already got the Dalai Lama and the Archbishop of Canterbury apparently) and just said nah mate.
I get to meet more than enough organic ravers in this world without having to meet the same mentals on myspace. Just say no kids

the only point that was being made, was that being so invasive with said promotion tactics put people off coming to future events.
i love how i come on here and voice my opinion, and the lot of you turn it into "a piece of spam is ruining your life." pack of wolves you are. i made a point that really, no one should have to make to any promoter with common sense and an ounce of decency. all dude was seeing was dollar signs, that's why he lit up my inbox with some bullshit tailored "personal message."
have a nice day

Unfortunately the nature of mass marketing is that it isn't polite. The strategy is about ratios, not about please and thank yous.

Don't be so melodramatic...
It's just funny that you'd write a 500 word essay on why you don't like spam, seemingly aimed at no one on here at all. Especially seeing as you've barely posted here in months.
Especially ironic considering your signature. Maybe try giving less of a shit?

one promoter using another promoters friends list as a mailing list is kinda pushing it.

IMHO the best promotion for your night/music/whathaveyou is being likeable.

i'd just like to say that the event invite thing has got to be rethought. i don't think there's anyone in here that can say to me in truth that they read everysingle event invite. i think you'll have far greater success pressing palms at your party and meeting people than spending 45 minutes on myspace clicking send. just my 2cents.

No it's shit. I never read an invite. I delete them straight away. And have you ever tried doing one? You have to select the recipients one at a time. How dull is that.

Rubbish. I'm not a member of myspace but I couldn't give a shit if a promoter spammed me half to death. If the lineup+soundsystem is good then I will go.

Invites are misused for allsorts. And I never read em (and I never notice them anyway as I don't get emails from myspace anymore for some reason). There *are* certain types of promotion that are offkey, and it does sometimes put me off even bothering to check something, whether it turns out to be good or not.

well since I'm guessing this thread is referring to me, I want to apologize to the folks I spammed (all 15) and to the forumheads for a thread that shouldn't be necessary. what melody stated has helped ground my practice, as I'm only beginning to promote, and made a mistake in the world of myspace. what I want even less than people not coming to my show is the idea that I'm a bad guy.
