no one pirates music because it's cool. would you steal a car (if you knew you could get away with it) to be a badass? no, you'd do it for the free car.moolac wrote: i dunno about others but i think this attitude really fucking bites.

most artists dont, but thats probably ego. in how many cases would that person buy the ep/album had they not "found" a download somewhere? not many at all. how many cases would that person go to a show or buy merch after discovering an artist via piracy? i dont know the statistics, but i'd wager a lot more. plus artists dont get much money from record sales anyway regardless of contract.moolac wrote:or
"i'll do it cause the artist might want me to, to get some promo". 99.999% of the time they dont, especially if it's a full ep/album.
or
"it'll sell them tickets or merch".. eh maybe, but if they want you to post stuff they will usually get in touch or you should ask first. it wont sell them records that's for sure.
again sample tracks and low quality bitrates just encourage people to pirate the full album.moolac wrote:i love blogs for the discovery angle, and you make a good point about opening up new music which i agree with - but you can discover music and post links to tracks (not full album zips) at 128k (not 320) and get exactly the same result.

Didn't you say the internet was all smoke and mirrors?Sight wrote:I sell records to people who spend thousands of dollars a year on music. Alot of people spend alot of money on music. I buy and sell music for a living. its all about who you know. you shouldnt listen to those Mp3 stealing, fake-dj, sh*t talking, pennies-on-the-dollar spending internet cowards. they are wrong. All you need now is a flash drive right ?Constrobuz wrote:cmon man, honestly who still buys music? ive only bought 4 cds i think in that past 2 years. if deevo just posts clips, and someone hears them and digs them... what are they gonna do next? do a blog search and find a link elsewhere. it's so easy nowadays. plus i kind of owe blogs for opening up entire genres to me. jazz, soul, prog & psych rock, samba & bossa nova ... stuff you cant just buy (not easily at least). i actually contribute to a blog with minimal journalism and lots of links. i dont feel bad about it, especially if turns a couple hundred people on to a new artist they would otherwise never hear of.Rekordah wrote:post
cool? i was suggesting 'everyone doing it' as a bit of a weak justification for putting up even more downloads on your own blog. which it is. sheep mentality eh.Constrobuz wrote:no one pirates music because it's cool. would you steal a car (if you knew you could get away with it) to be a badass? no, you'd do it for the free car.

ego? often you will find its the artists going crazy about their shit leaking everywhere. are you suggesting that artists are actually wanting to give their music away for free but their egos are stopping them from getting in touch with the blogs? hm. if artists or record companies want people to post music, they get in touch.Constrobuz wrote:most artists dont, but thats probably ego. in how many cases would that person buy the ep/album had they not "found" a download somewhere? not many at all. how many cases would that person go to a show or buy merch after discovering an artist via piracy? i dont know the statistics, but i'd wager a lot more. plus artists dont get much money from record sales anyway regardless of contract.
nah i dunno about that. are you saying that that you wouldnt buy an album without hearing the whole thing in full as a pirate version? i find that pretty odd and it kinda contradicts what you were saying before about people then progressing to buy the album/ep.Constrobuz wrote:again sample tracks and low quality bitrates just encourage people to pirate the full album.moolac wrote:i love blogs for the discovery angle, and you make a good point about opening up new music which i agree with - but you can discover music and post links to tracks (not full album zips) at 128k (not 320) and get exactly the same result.

Content use for promotional terms..
The music posted ranges from hard-to-find rarities that have not been issued in many years to more contemporary offerings, and selections are often restricted to a particular musical genre or theme. This music blog posts some copyrighted material as a free download, but will post more content about each and every artist along with links to album purchases, promo videos, upcomming/recent shows, and just news about the genre. Because this blog is primarily about a specific musical obsession, it provides an expertly curated selection of music that you'd be unlikely to find on your own. There's no question that the majority of what is posted on this blogs lacks permission from the artists or the labels, but the blog mainly offers lesser-known artists that are unlikely to threaten major-label revenue. All-in-all, the music posted is for you, for me, and for the community to educate and share.

true that. especially for people like me who are not dj's and dont buy vinylSaphyre wrote:I think constrobuz is right on the whole. With an extremely limited release like this it is egotistical in some sense but you've got to respect that at the same time. However looking at it another way releases like this are actually the opposite of egotistical, in this example FlyLo who is now pretty popular with his last album is putting out this completely under the radar EP for his true fans to keep them happy (i realise im assuming that the hes got the right intentions, either way doesnt matter), i love the fact ive got records that are extremely limited and im lucky enough to be one of the people who owns them, im sure other people feel the same. That said, I still downloaded this because i love his music, I would buy the vinyl if i had the chance. Another thing to keep in mind is that this isnt available as an mp3 release anyway i dont see why people should be denied listening to it, that would be getting your ego involved. If the physical copy is limited it doesnt mean that the music itself should be heard by a limited amount of people.
