Yeah we give any vinyl purchasor the free 320's when they email us, it's a popular service, don't know of any other labels doing it at the moment to be honest. But the service is not without cost, bandwidth, servers, plus the human resource, it adds up. Providing flac's or some other lossless media is simply too expensive to do.

So less of the 'should' from the original poster and more of the "it'd be nice if labels could"! It's hard enough to turn a profit, shit, break even, for so many labels as it is.

you think that back day peeps were worried about getting an MP3 and FLAC with there white's???...

i know times are changing & all that, but seriously, be happy you have got the tnuc on record, and its not hard to just record it and put it on your mp3 or whatever...

the rise in limewire & shit like that would lead me to believe some labels are worried about p2p dowloading & shit from stnuc who buy it then put it up for share...im all for MP3 releases, dont get me wrong, but dont complain if it comes on vinyl & not digital, PLEASE

Does make me laugh people saying its long to record a vinyl to the computer then convert to MP3, because they just want to sit and click. Be happy this music is out there for you to own, I still get a massive buzz with every new bit of wax I buy and I've been doing it for the last 15 years.

I agree with you - I can see that labels would be worried,
if there were more bundles available then there would be more chance for the producer/label to get some money from downloads,
at the minute some labels probably dont see any cash from the rips/P2P stuff that goes on -

if you really dont want to pay for something, you can find it for free,
but at least this would give something back to the artist/label?

can see your point but its up to the artist's & labels really, these tunes only get leaked because they obv give the CD to someone, who, they obviously think they can trust, but in reaity shouldnt be trusted as far as they can be thrown. This is where the 'for' dubplate argument sways toward for me, keep your dubplates, DONT TRUST ANYBODY, there are shitcunts out there looking to leak it at any moment...

I am also very, very thankful that I have this music at all, in any format. I give thanks and praise to Jah every day for my tunes.

I also recognise that FLACs incur extra costs (bandwidth, yes. Production, really? Don't you need a WAV at the mastering stage? That WAV just needs encoding to FLAC, no real costs there surely.)

I would love to have the option to pay for vinyl/FLAC i.e. £6 + £1

£1 should cover the cost of the download.

Your distributor is going to want to be involved, so you're probably going to be making less than a quid, plus setting up the payment system (and the charges that incurs) as well as a delivery system (whether it be promo cards or something more advanced). It's asking a lot of a label that may struggle to break even on the vinyl sales, and may not have a teccies on board.

not saying its impossible we do it for free, but it involves a lot of setting up, admin and if you're selling them, then mcps etc get involved. that's bare hassle.

This makes me remember an interview with Steve Bug (I think), from the really great Slices DVD magazine (Issue 3-07). He plays CD because he can't travel to gigs with all the vinyl he wants to carry.. He stills buys vinyl though, but digitizes them himself since he think it sounds better than the digital files.

I always back up my Vinyl for archival purposes, mainly because i'm a clumsy fucker. They never sound that great though and personally i would love to have a digital version supplied with the Vinyl.

I think i would be willing to pay an extra 50p for it but it would have to be cheaper than paying for a standalone MP3 Release.
Obviously there would be delivery cost issues but this could be easily remedied with private bit torrent trackers. you just supply a login with the vinyl purchased and then its up to the community to keep it alive. Sure MP3's would probably go amiss and get handed around but they do anyway all you have to do nowdays is type "[insert release] + rapidshare" in to google ffs.
