If you can count to four this tune is as easy to mix as any other skream track..

i was going on 20 hours awake w/ no sleep when i was sorting it out so you could say my brain was open to suggestion and there was no clear answer. the tune becomes 'obvious' if you pay attention only to the clap-snare and figure the 'one' backwards from there. or just wait and cue on the snare. additionally the percussion (hi hats and whatnot) right after the lfo sweep in the intro are intentionally (and quite nicely) misleading. anyway, i've over-explained my analysis already so i'll stop. i'm not an idiot i just question everything by default.

It's in 4/4 time, the intro has an even number of bars, you can just mix it normally man. Count...

The problem here is you're mixing off the CD. If you buy the vinyl, you'll find the parakeet's call is a good point to drop the riddim.

No, how you did it in [1] and [3] are the right ways, and that's how I did it in my mix. If you mix on any other beat of the bar you'll be thrown off during the drop.

In [2] you're mixing from the second beat of the bar instead of the first, and it sounds horrible. Can't you hear that melody synth line is out of time?

In both one and three you're mixing from the first beat of the bar, only you're concentrating more on where you're starting with the beats which is a huge mistake. Counting from the first hi hat and matching the snares amounts to the same thing in this case dude, but mixing like that is dangerous. It encourages lazyness. The only reason matching the snares works in this case is that the snare on both Traitor and Killers About lands on the fourth beat of the bar. It sounds like you don't understand the concept of tunes in 4/4, as what you're finding difficult is identifying the first beat of the bar. I'd recommend learning some music theory, it'll make things a lot easier

as for learning music theory i had a full year of it in school, played sax for a year, clarinet for two, and played bass with my band, covers and originals for two summers, and producing since '94 starting with .mod .mtm .xm trackers. i've also been on decks for five years.

you might say i've reached the point where i don't give a fuck and down to try anything, mix any genre with any other as long as i'm amused by it and strangers comment kindly in public and online as to what i'm doing.

and pointing out that the first snare lands on the 4th beat of the bar and not the 3rd just affirms my point that the tune is not utterly standard and thus open to interpretation. one man's "out of time" is another man's "pleasant syncopation."
