when I play the micron with all cables in and working the sound is audible but it isn't actually getting to my stereo out (the far right channel on my mixer). could this be part of the problem?

it's going to show up in your input audition not the stereo out

it does man (Audition is the far left one) and it shows in the midi track when I press record enable.

effectively linking the audio channel to the midi channel seems to be the missing link here.

I'm fucking around with vst connections - add external instrument - though I'm not sure it's going to bear any fruits of progress.........

you just need the record enable on the audio channel
double check the mixer channel settings on your inputs man that's the only thing i can think of off the top of my head

essentially it should go
- midi channel transmits data to synth
- synth is triggered by data output goes in thru your soundcard input
- input routed to a mixer channel (audio)
- record and it's in the box now

you should make sure all your stereo ins and outs have separate buses first
