wormcode wrote:Definitely longer than 13 years man, probably closing in on 20! I have a couple from 1993. Their Basic Channel stuff is more techno, but their Rhythm & Sound project is especially amazing imo and is more reggae influenced of the 2 especially in the drum & vocal department. Check out "With the Artists" if you haven't... Also definitely check out Vainqueur and Monolake if you haven't for more dubtechno goodness.
Guy's been making music since the early '80s, probably earlier... check this out. moritz is the one in the scarf

Hey shredexx that is great to hear Moritz is recovering.
I based my info on a conversation I had with Mark in January while he was playing a show I was involved with here in Australia. At that time he said things weren't looking so good. He seemed very saddened and didn't really want to talk about it.
They were both booked to come over and play but only Mark could come as Moritz had just had the stroke. The extra plane ticket meant they could send Tikiman however....
After looking on discogs about that Palais Schaumburg band he was in in the 80s (
http://www.discogs.com/artist/Palais+Schaumburg ) I noticed Thomas Fehlmann (Orb/Kompakt/etc) was in the band too!

Yeah that is great news. Also awesome to hear he'll be striving to release more music in the future.

I just bought 6 Rhythm & Sound 10"s and 5 of thier 12"s yesterday.
Didn't bother listening to them......got them home and blasted them......pure bliss.
I didn't manage to score "King In My Empire" though so it's looking like a trip to Discogs.com.
These records are magnificent.

There's a feature on Moritz von Oswald in June edition of The Wire magazine...he seems to be going strong, good to hear!
Since reading the article I've been hooked on basic channel releases. The techier side of dubstep certainly owes a lot to these guys...

you're not wrong... but what is most important in these situations is a drive to recover. hes got such a huge amount of support from everyone around him and from people all over the world that dont want the whole chapter closed.
These things take a long time. But i have no doubt in my mind, and neither does he, that he wont make a recovery...
once again he will be so happy to know about all the support he gets from all around the world... big up!!!
Luke: I used to live in Sydney... went to school there... with some of the members of Seekae (Im pretty sure you know them)... cant wait to go back and check the way things have changed over there!! Would have loved to be there to catch Mark & Tikiman!!!!!
And yup... Fehlmann was in Schaumberg too... They had a few projects together after the band as well... probably worth checking out too...

Personally always found BC-proper stuff a bit boring... I like some of the Maurizio-alias joints though

I really love Basic Channel, but kind of dislike their influence - kind of the same way I feel about Autechre, I think. Basic Channel records are brilliant, but they seem to have lead to a culture of people working in a very limited sound world of dub chords, analogue bloops and tape distortion, and fetishizing that as an 'authentic' or 'deep' sound that's worth striving for for its own sake, rather than really working to do something new or express themselves in an individual way.
