coz most mixes i've heard draw heavily on one style, possibly deep and techny but never a mash of everything - i enjoy those mixes of course but would really enjoy a set that covers a few more bases. that's what i'm trying to do with my practice hours sets at the moment. not easy though.
Not really bro house music is so wiiiide-ranging and split in various niches and factions with their own legacy/path, its only funky/dubbage/uk house and thew 'new' people in those scenes w/o any baggage that has got people trying to join the dots...
yeah i couldn't really think of anyone. my main problem is that when djs operate within such parameters i often get a little bored. this goes more for recorded mixes. totally different experience in the club.
For sure. Thats why its all abt going by radio sets and clubs. Most (deep house, tech etc) recorded mixes are dead out (even from djs I love)

Funny I'd say I'm the opposite, I much prefer variations in style when I go out - why I enjoy Kode 9 / Untold / Brackles / Oneman (goes on...) sets so much. Whenever I start sleeping on FACT another whopper comes along

Yeah but i think 'going deep' within a certain genre translates much better in a club experience than on a CD/recording where it can sumtimes leave u cold

I've heard some DJs (Ben UFO) make the transition from 'proper' house to UK Funky work but I can kind of see where El-B was coming from in that Wire interview when he was going on about how a lot of UKG tunes sounded ropey next to US Garage tunes... (though I don't necess. agree that that means the UK tunes are inferior!) There's a different sort of aesthetic to 'proper' house I suppose.

no no, i love variety in the club and those are some of my favourite djs. i just meant that i get deep in to a 1 genre journey in the club but i find that less enjoyable on a recorded mix. not that i don't like it still. i just like curveballs.

i guess this, in essence, is my issue.
as proved with dubstep amongst other genres, 'deep' can so easily just be a euphemism for dull as fuck.
in the club, where the music is more sensory, it can be totally transcendental - especially with deep house.
there's obviously loads of ground in between as well.
and btw i'm not referring to the wookie mix in particular with this discussion i'm really enjoying it.

As bait as that 'You need to hear it in a club' argument can seem when someone's defending Clipz it is actually true, isn't it? Getting monitors this week has really reminded me that a lot of the time I'm not hearing things properly in the first place...
One genre/style mixes can be good though if you're in the right mood, you sometimes have to force yourself to listen to them for about half an hour before you get warmed up tho

the audible clicks between track switches nearly kills this mix for me though. not a good recording.
