Well I thought we reached consensus that no new subforum would be created, offending threads would be reported, people would chill out a bit and try and behave a little more responsibly.
The hideout is a good pressure valve and should be used a bit more, might siphon off a lot of the hijinx that works it way into a lot of these threads.
Re Rob Papen - DSF is prolly never going to represent a large enough market for him to post in. If he did, I'd ask him if subboombass is just a reskined predator.
Re the trolls, I've heard the term ip ban before, can you actually ban certain ip address? If so, take out mc wayne/kp mike at the source.
Something that should maybe should be considered is another moderator. Maybe we need a bad cop, so sharmy can remain the good cop.

This only works for static IPs and there's no guarantee that some of the sneakier trolls aren't using proxies

Please do not make it so that new people cannot reach valuable information because more veteran posters have sticks up there ass about dealing with the 'garbage'.
instead make it so new guys can at least read the gold material instead of brawling over nothing to reach a status point...
do we really need more control institutions and methods in our lives, when we can all and should all just share a wealth of knowledge

As a relatively new visitor here but a veteran of many years of music forum visiting, I offer the opinion that you guys really don't have much of a problem here - if the most frequently asked questions get constantly directed to either the search button or to a previous thread, new members will get the information they need while not feeling like they have any reason to be terrified of exisiting members, but will know the rules for the next time they post. Plus, they will be able to direct others in the same way. I would caution against too many deleted threads, but swift locking of anything that is too rehashed works very well to make a point without inviting endless circular discussions.
The community here feels like exactly that and although I am active on a number of other boards this is one I actually want to make time to come and visit, and you can expect to see a lot more of me.
Even though I am fairly experienced and have been making music for a long time and could happily go into mega geek mode very easily, I dislike any forum that smacks of elitism and I think the current setup here is one that works very well. Please don't change it cause I'll have to leave again
PS the fact that there is an 11 page discussion on how to keep your board healthy is a suggestion that it is, in fact, already pretty healthy.

FFS people, just keep your posts on topic, do only post if you got something to contribute, and keep your personal blah blah to yourself! Or use PM, the SNH, IRC or whatever
We CAN turn this place into something more serious again, but only if people learn to stfu. It might never reach the quality of gearslutz for example, but at least it doesnt get any worse than it is right now

So whats the conclusion, cause to my eyes nobody has come up with a definitive answer. I say give dsf 'advanced' a try. What harm can it really do?... Will it make 'newbs' work horder to be able to post there?
