Everyone i know thought it sucked because everyone I know sucks and does too much blow..I liked it regardless that it's not the same Aliens vibe.

Also, wasn't time travelling Extensively covered in Star Trek? Wasn't there some police force that prevented time travel and altering of the future?

As a stand-alone it could have worked...And the special effects were good (and that brings us back to prometheus LOL)
*shrug* Most stories are based on at least one unlikely coincidence/happenstance.

Time travel has been used a lot in Star Trek, but it never made sense and never really worked. Especially in the context of the time police who only ever appeared when they couldn't work out how to fix things and were the ultimate panic/reset button. Diverging into a separate timeline has been done before in TNG (and it was a very well done segment), I was happy to see them do something with time travel that actually changed the timeline, as opposed to ultimately having nothing happen at all.

I've seen it but I don't remember it, which probably isn't a good thing, or a bad thing. I expect it's 'meh'

Meh is the right word.

It's like The Grey on Mars if I remember correctly.

How shit is Battlestar Galactica btw? Most overrated sci-fi series EVER.

Good point, there aren't a whole lot of worthwhile Sci-Fi series around. But I really dislike BG a lot. Cyclical? Didn't strike me as such. Every episode just continued to stress duality rather than circularity for me. It came a cross as if they were just coming up with stuff as they were moving along, making for the most uninteresting plot possible. They could have done so much more with the cylons and especially the 'threat' they could have posed: the possibilities are endless but instead they created something suitable for Stargate fans looking for some pseudo intellectualism.

The acting is generally poor. So are the sets (the planet sets mainly, but also some of the space-sets). I don't know if you've ever seen the Dungeons and Dragons movie? it reminded me off that in many ways. Just because Jeremy Irons is in it (replace by EJ Olmos), doesn't mean it makes sense.

It lacks consistency, it lacks a worthy enemy, it lacks a point.

it is cyclical man "this has all happened before and it will all happen again"

Talking about technology and the formula that is generally followed by a civilization

I loved it...sampled the hell out of it tbh

I see. Now that is a fairly good point there. In that sense I suppose it has a quality. Mind you I'm still stuck at the 2nd or so episode of season 3. I just think there was so much potential there for a hardcore sci-fi saga.

But it focusses too much on religion and moral issues for me. Granted, many people like it for that reason. But I felt that in every episode the show tried to force me to look at an issue as grey and not black or white. Ok, fine, but this occurred in almost every episode. I think that's what I disliked about it.

There are some cool characters, there are deffo some good dialogues (and the OST's are excellent), but for me it lacks consistency and the cylons were just a disappointing enemy in the end.

But I suppose it is one of those series that, if you haven't seen it, it's certainly worth a try. Generally, people seem to like it and it is fairly unique within sci-fi. Just not for me.

Started watching Star Trek TNG since it's on tv regularly. Great stuff, blows Voyager (which I really enjoyed as a kid) and Enterprise out of the water.

Saw episode 125 "The Inner Light" for the first time not too long ago and was blown away. It really lives up to the hype; It's probably some of the best tv I have ever seen.
I highly recommend it.

Very much looking forward to this. Clooney has proven that he can handle sci-fi (Solaris remake was quite good - nothing on the original Soviet remake though) bit Bullock is simply offputting.

Hoping this and Elysium will level out the weaker summer sci-fi movie of the week flicks (being world war z and Pacific rimjob)

Woah Gravity looks good. It's such a fucking OBVIOUS concept too, can't believe no one did it before. Not putting the film down, it's a great idea, but it's not been done that much has it? Yeah I'll check it out
