That can't be right...

china has insane laws over systems and game content. it takes at least a year extra to get a game out there. It took WoW multiple years and they print money

Hell they were paying companies to not show their titles on Sony at E3 to give a false sense of exclusivity.
The Halo & Fable audience only sells so much, and not too many parents are willing to shell out $500 on something that won't have good value for quite some time, same with the fanboys who are willing to look the other way at all the problems this console has.
I still think the 360 was a fluke honestly.
They seem to be following the same path they do with OS releases of a decent one then the follow up being completely shit.

sony witheld information because nothing they say would be viewed as positive. Its a dull console gaming year. At the end of a generation, most studios arent jumping to be one of the last titles on this gen. makes much more sense to convert to next gen. Had microsoft not had horrible pr, they would have waited to announce around GTA5 release and no one would care. But the forseeable future is nothing but rehashed sequels, gta5, and the last of us. Its DEAD right now. Microsoft misjudged their marketing and failed miserably to convey their features. The CIA privacy shit doesnt help much.

Sony (smartly) kept quiet and watched the fire burn. How quickly people forget what an abortion the PS3 has been

microsoft should have come out and said "better graphics, native HD, better online support, and our unit will still be cheaper than the PS3 was at launch"

side note: the social media manager for microsoft needs to be fired. Terrible terrible twitter replies

PS4 Games Demoed on PS4 Dev Kits Says Blow, Xbox One Games Spotted Running on PCs With Nvidia Cards

It just keeps getting worse for Microsoft: After facing a consumer backlash over DRM, a bizarrely high price and no love on Amazon, a new scandal has emerged.

Earlier today, CinemaBlend commented on the fact that a broken Xbox One game returned to the Windows 7 home screen, and that, in a pic we could see that it was running on a Nvidia 700 series GTX GPU (the Xbox One uses AMD). The Battlefield 4 demo ‘running on Xbox One’ was also spotted to include the PC command ‘backspace’. While it sounded terrible – these are meant to be console games, CinemaBlend tried to put things into perspective:

Truth be told, none of this should be a surprise to most people given that all E3 demos run their games on high-end PCs; it’s a smoke and mirrors circus to sell the idea of the game, sort of like how pro wrestling sells the idea of fighting despite being scripted. We should all be used to it by now and it’s just common practice [from most studios] given that the devkits or comparable specs aren’t usually finalized at this point.

Turns out, however, that they are wrong. Developer of upcoming PS4/PC/iOS title The Witness Jonathan Blow tweeted (tweets ordered for clarity):

It is not true as the article says that “all E3 demos run on hi-end PCs”. The Witness was running on PS4 dev hardware, and it looked to me like all the other PS4 games were running on dev kits as well.

Dev hardware is the hardware that will be in the final retail box, but in a less consumer-oriented package.

Dev kits almost always have more RAM yeah. Better CPU+GPU, no…

All the indies I know were running on the PS4.

We worked very hard to get our game running on the actual PS4 hardware and operating system in time for the show. As did many other devs.

Sucker Punch’s Jason Connell added:

Yup, we were definitely on a dev kit. [For inFamous: Second Son]

Blow commented:

That is kind of crazy considering consoles are supposed to be on the shelves with these games in 5-6 months.

During Microsoft’s press show I was impressed by how good the games looked given the console’s specs. But if they weren’t running on those specs then it becomes pretty questionable.

I actually don’t want XB1 to fail because we need competition to keep things healthy.

And finally:

I’m seeing a lot of forum comments saying “it is no big deal, most E3 demos are on PCs”. False. I wonder if this is “reputation management”.

This whole thing sounds utterly bizarre: has Microsoft been essentially lying to journalists and viewers with games running on completely different hardware? Aliens: Colonial Marines drew intense criticism after it was revealed that journalists played a better version of the game than was actually released, and it’s hard not to feel deja vu.

Could Sony capitalize off of the fact that the PS4 seems far more along? Is Microsoft hiding yet another thing? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Oh yeah and PS4 is currently outdoing Xbone presale wise 8:1 according to GameStop.

"Most E3 demos are on PCs" True. Source: Worked in the industry for years, ran booths at GDC and E3.... considering the finalized consoles don't exist yet how exactly are you going to play it on an xbox one? What dev units is microsoft going to have for a game they personally did not develop? The developer would have the dev unit, not the publisher.

The problem with that entire story is a lot of the people talking and giving quotes are producers, PR folks, and other folks who have limited technical and logistical knowledge of the developmental side of the game.... when in reality some it guy, an artist, and a few programmers are running their booth while their leads/producers get drunk and do coke at PF changs with their college buddies

It's pretty ridiculous that the PC specs that they're using is nowhere near what the final console is going to have inside, hell it's running a NVIDIA card when they're using AMD.

Well they haven't had a chance to correctly optimize their games so can't exactly run it on the consoles hardware at the moment. Allowing them to run it on a pc is most likely going to give them less headaches than a early dev kits.

you do understand that a non finished game is not optimized for console use until shortly before it goes gold right? Example: GTA5 is likely just now able to be run on an xbox360 without overheating, freezing, or crashing every 10 minutes

Oh I do, but they could show actual footage on the devkits, you know like Sony did. Using a NVIDIA Titan card vs the AMD GPU that will be in the system isn't anything about optimization, it's just blatant dishonesty, then again photos and footage that is not actually in engine on the console has become a standard practice and seemingly acceptable for marketing until something like Aliens Colonial Marines happens.

don't be silly. Nintendo has sold 700 million consoles and handheld systems in the past 25 years. The Nintendo DS sold more than the PSP and PS3 combined.

They'll be spending Wii profits for the next 20 years.
