It's growing on me, definitely a great album in my opinion. Homeless and Raver have really grown on me- the vocal samples on both are killers. Shell of Light also.
Having said that, some of it still sounds a little incomplete to me and other parts sound like the blueprint for something better (the darker breakdown in 'Homeless' for example). But that skeletal sort of feel adds to it in a sense- it needs to sound elusive to sustain its own atmosphere of discontent. Its a shame he doesn't make rave music though, since he makes post-rave music so well- though I actually can imagine 'Raver' working in a club.

Near Dark sounds kind of raw if you turn it up really loud.

Near Dark is actually one of my least favourite tracks, I really don't like the 'I can't keep my eyes off you' vocal on it... although the 'I envy you' vocal is good lol
Its hard to see many Burial tunes properly taking a dancefloor apart but then I suppose that isn't what he's about, and if you took away the loose drums and the blurry dynamics I suppose you'd lose what's so great about his tunes in a way.

I reckon a lot of the tracks would work in a club. Shell of Light is pure jungle fire, Raver definitely would with the 4x4... Most of them would I reckon. For me anyway!

Maybe it's that in my imagination it turns into an El-B dub tearing up forward. I do think the beat is pretty excellent, a bit of a roller that one. But yeah, the emotional content might be a bit off for the dance floor maybe. I'm not too fond of that particular sample either.

This stuff is always a bit confounding to try and dance to for very long though it seems.

It's a beaut.
In a better world John Peel would be introducing that one on Top Of The Pops this Friday.

The album is more perfect as a piece of music in its entirety than his debut i think, it works so well as a whole. Raver, Near Dark and Etched Headplate are probably my favourites at the moment. Raver is so positive after some of the bleak melancholy, it's reminds me of some Inner City/Kevin Saunderson bits like Anohngay - beautiful.

I'm a bit torn on that myself. "I can't take my eyes off you" is a bit too long a sentence to be looping for a large part of the track. Gets a bit old, and cheesy. Keep it to 4 words or less.

I think its the way it dramatically pitches down 'you' each time, it sounds a bit comical.
