Funky at Dojo Lounge sounds sick, if only I had some money. I wonder where I can find some...

Also check out some of Spyro's recent Rinse sets... Yes most of it's grime, but he's been playing a few instrumentals that sound very much like the producers have been listening to Funky.
Loving the tunes that have obvious grime influences, but most of the stuff with vocals just gets on my nerves to be honest. A few tracks released lately sound much, much better as instrumentals.

i'm baffled by funky to be honest. there's no shuffle to the beats and yet loads of people i know who are (were) well into their garage & dubstep are mad for it. i can't hear the connection myself. am i missing the point? is there no connection?

so many of these new tunes are obviously carnival/calypso/soca influenced. that shuffle beat is so recognizable. much more than the house influences to my ears at least. i'm not in it completely yet, it's interesting though.

i'm waiting to see if a darker strain of funky comes through, exactly like the darker strains of garage came through back in the days. i know if that starts happening its going to get really interesting, really quick and you'll find a lot more people instantly catching on to it. let's see what happens.

i really hope it doesn't keep going pina colada / cruise ship vibes which is clearly there in some of the beats.
