Dear Scion,

If the kids in L.A. get tired of you bringing in BADASS U.K. headliners to play free parties with turbo sound. Would you consider San Diego instead? It would save me alot of gas money and driving home would not take me 2 and half hours.. Hell.. I might even go buy a toyota if you did that...:)

I clean forgot how to play.
But you can still come around,
In fact I invite you down,
Maybe together we can wipe that smile off your face.
'Cause what a difference, what a difference, what a difference
A little difference would make.
We'll draw a blueprint, it must be easy,
It's just a matter of knowing when to say no or yes.
Frustrating, frustrating, always waiting for the bigger axe to fall.
A patient game that i can't find my way to play.
Never mind what's been selling,
It's what you're buying

although they tend to book good dj's and producers, they go about throwing their events in mainstream clubs (at least in los angeles) that attract people in to dubstep that are not about the music at all
Who's to say they aren't into it now that they've been properly introduced to it at a sick venue from some pretty sick artists?

Put that in yer pipe 'n smoke it.

bellybelle wrote:I wouldn't say that dubstep would be ruined by corporations. I think an Us vs. Them mindset and the theme of exclusivity will do more to ruin the scene than anything a corporation could do.

Music isn't about snobbery and determining who gets to be part of this genre clique. Its about people who love the music. People learning to love the music. People coming together for the music. Its supposed to be all about the music. And until there is a litmus test for how wobblerific you have to be before you're allowed to play with the dubsteppers, we should prolly lay off the assumptions about why people are going to the shows.

And I can't hate on any DJ/Producer for working with a corporate gig. I hate this whole argument over the "keepin it real" vs "sell out" bs. You want to keep it really real?

DJs/Producers......how many of you just want to be heard? If you had the opportunity to be heard, would you take it?

Keepin it real is more for the fans than the artist. The artist just wants to share--its the fanbase that holds artists to this ridiculous standard and that's lame because at the end of the day, if you're not in this to be heard, then you shouldn't be in it. And heaven forbid you don't have to struggle to get food on the table AND produce/spin. Guess you're not keeping it real if you got your light bill paid and got to go to another country cuz some cats over there wanna hear your jams and you never got to travel before in your life.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Coming from a small ass town in NW Indiana, I would love to be able to play the shows that get 800+ heads. I had a lil taste of it in the past doin the dnb thing, which I'm still doing, but at the end of the day I just want as many ppl as possible to hear what I have to offer.

okay the underground warehouse got 800+ heads, the scion show had 250 ppl..

200 of those 250 where not dubsteppas, but A BUNCH hipster kids from hollyweird, THAT DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THE LINE UP, BUT ABOUT THE FACT THEY HAD 20 EXTRA BUCKS TO SPEND ON BOOZE, COZ THEY GOT IN FOR FREE..

it's hard for some people to understand, coz not everywhere is blessed as the L.A. scene is, as far as overseas talent touching down, and doing their thing.. LA doesn't need scion to bring fat lineups and overseas talent..

Hrm... I just moved back to Indy from Phoenix, AZ. I have been to, and spent quite a bit of time in LA. It still looked better than most shit that goes on around here.

Jaybird - Whats the real issue here bruv, people don't agree with you and yet you continue to try and force your view on them. I commend your stance on something you believe in no matter how misguided I think it is but trying to force feed your view point on people is not a good look.

You are indeed blessed in LA when it comes to dubstep shows, as is the west coast in general, it's a success story. With every success comes attention from larger companies etc etc, sure they see dubstep as a vehicle to promote their wares but this is a surefire sign (npi) that dubstep as a musical form is blowing the fuck up and to be honest is a compliment to everyone involved.

The only way for the corporations involvment to stop is for the artists to not support the gigs by refusing to play no matter how big the carrot is thats waved in front of them. You havn't once addressed this, instead you direct your anger at the people attending. Why is that?

Why, is it a problem for shitloads of people to be into this sound, who gave you the right to judge or anyone the right to judge who gets to be accepted and who doesn't. Your views end up going full circle and being extremly right wing, I'm sure that's not your intention but have a read back over this entire thread and see how you come off.

Please don't take offence, I'm not taking any sides here, I'm a bystander with some questions.

Wow you guys are acting like kids.

Then again most of the Dubstep producers are vIrtually kids.

God I'm getting old!

Lock this thread as it's going around in circles and folk are just getting more and more worked up.

Right I'm just going to grab a bite to eat from McDonald's then head over to HMV to buy me some Dubstep with my credit card...............see ya! 8)

this thread is waste.

from what i hear the whole gig was excellent. i have heard this from skream, joker and nomad.

if the artists are happy that the gig was well run then what is the problem?

the photos sure look like the vibes were good inside.

sounds like someone could never get booked by scion even if they wanted to....so now as an outsider of the "cool crowd" of local dubsteppers and shows he thought he was a part of prior, and there are bigger and better things popping up around him that he cant get in on....its an issue, and he wants to blame it on other people, car companies, hipsters, hollywood, and god knows what else
