Well, fairly dissapointing. First 1hr + 45 minutes of Mala were a write off, major technicals: Funktion 1 got turned down loads in the switch from CDJs-Vinyl, resulting in being able to hear everyone in the room chatting over Horror Show, Changes, Twisup, Fall Of The Zulu etc :a: bare feedback everytime the mic was turned on or in a breakdown, no onstage monitoring for 90 minutes, right deck stopped working, sound engineer didnt tip up for a good hour.... Mixer/system almost fully cutting out in Way Mi Defend VIP, so bad that Mala gave a little speech parring off Fire.

Then when the rig was at a decent volume the highs were harsh as fuck and most of the sub got sacrificed for overall volume, sensed some naff limiting on the venue's part.

When he finally got some momentum going it was decent & the new Bug & Flowdan tune went off at least.

Anyone else go?

not jealous at all. saw mala in munich and prague where he spontaneously played for 3-4h (he asked politely the crowd and other Djs if he should continue..)

this basically
was standing around wondering what the point was for a while.. managed to get some volume in there eventually but massively distorted. Had a good night but won't be going back to fire any time soon

Not too many proper specials from what I can recall aside from the standard Mala fare (depends how far you're stretching special)

A few sick Swindle tunes (some sort of Airmiles VIP I think), a Mark Pritchard tune & Cut End VIP stuck out.

but he didnt play Jah Power Dub, DMZ vs MZN, Anti War VIP, Miracles Remix or any Changes remixes. I didnt stay till the end though the system was doing my nut. Not being nitpicky but his set at the Medi Skank was 10x better. Doubt he'll be back at Fire again

That sounds horrible, surprising because Redbull usually seem quite on the ball.

Does Mala ever play DMZ vs MZN? I thought that was a tune for Joe Nice that Mala doesn't even play?

Is that a general problem with CDJ'S going into vinyl?

Ages ago,at the Custard Factory, MAH had just come off the CDJ's and Coki was going on to play dubplate/vinyl. The first 45 mins of his set were really quiet in comparison to the set before, so the tunes didnt' translate well, the crowd weren't feeling it and the engineer was nowhere to be bloody seen. Luckily Plastician, who was on next, came early and fixed the problem so his last 45 mins were WEIGHTY.

Only other time i've ever felt a noticeable difference in volume between CDJs/Vinyl over two sets was on the Medi boat at Outlook. Truth/Commodo's set on Pioneers was much louder than Mala & Vivek's. Again Funktion 1.

Any decent venue and sound engineer should have a setup that can easily accommodate both and it be fine with no discrepancy in volume. E.g at DMZ 8 Mala was on vinyl, Coki - CDJs & Loefah - Serato and there were no hiccups at all.

Don't know what was going on with Fire in room 2, its not exactly a makeshift club & the entry/drinks are expensive enough + room 1 was fine all night. Fucking poor tbh

yh medi xmas bash was srs vibes, anything at corsica just feels like a house party tbh.

hoping that the technicals at fire don't occur @ the exit night. seems alot of nights are moving towards there too.

staying relevant to the fred, the sound and ldn need more medi nights. can't be relying on system every 2/3 months.

Too right, even if the lineups arent as packed as the Xmas Skank one it'd still be great vibes. Corsica suited it as well.

Regarding the Exit night, was going to maybe cop a ticket but slightly put off from Fire now, hopefully they'll have sorted the vinyl issues but that room 2 system seems pretty hit & miss. Room 1 was alright tho.

Also anyone notice Fresh seems to have been canned off the lineup? Gone from Bad Company "featuring all 4 original members" to just Dbridge, Maldini & Vegas now

Big release, hoping the chemical code doesn't expire before this is up.
