johnathan davis, or "J Devil" (one of the dumbest names ever?) is blessing my city with his "dubstep" performance tonight. excellent.

http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsu ... ngs_hi.php
As any DJ-producer hyphenate will tell you, it takes a huge investment of both time and money to get into the beat-crafting game. It also helps to have some primo equipment and a few skilled and savvy mentors to help guide the way if you have any hopes of becoming an electronica artist of any importance whatsoever.

Needless to say, Jonathan Davis of Korn possessed all three of these things when he was becoming his DJ alter ego J Devil: Plenty of downtime between albums to twiddle with knobs and settings on digital audio programs, a rock star salary, and guidance from such dubstep gurus as Datsik and Skrillex.

Hence, his side gig laying dubstep doom and gloom on Korn crowd's before concerts and at various nightclub appearances, both of which he'll do tonight at both Comerica Theatre (when the nu-metal pioneers perform) and later at The Path of Totality afterparty at Crescent Ballroom.

Much like a aforementioned long-haired and bespectacled EDM icon that he collaborated with on Korn's recent dubstep-dusted disc The Path of Totality, Davis has followed the path leading from hard rock to hard-charging dubstep purveyor. As the above video illustrates, he's keen on killer drops and gorey grinds.

His sound should mix quite brutally with that of local dubstepper Sluggo, who has the honor of opening up for Korn tonight, as well as appearing alongside Davis at the afterparty. Sluggo's wrathful sound is far more violent and vicious than most of his brostep ilk (as he lays on the bass like a B-52 carpet-bombing sortie), so we wouldn't be surprised if Davis gets a few pointers from the dude. Ditto for Mendez, who's releases his shizzle on Sluggo's Ultragore Records imprint and will also perform at the afterparty.

It's the first time that such heavy-duty tracks will pour from the Crescent's primo sound system and ricochet off the trendy concert hall's wooden rafters, which will probably result in some unusual reactions from the hipsters drinking in the lounge.

And who knows? It might just get more of the cool kids into dubstep as a result. They might just ride their fixies to a fancy coffee boutique like Lux tomorrow morning and state "Man, I know Korn is nu-metal bozo rock, but J Devil sounded pretty pimply cool last night."
"And who knows? It might just get more of the cool kids into dubstep as a result."

btw all those ultragore banners you see here, or as was spelled for a while ultagore lol, are the people mentioned in the article, whom are from phoenix. worst brostep ever. nick sluggo was originally in ultrablack and mendez, who was a huge promoter for the later part of bad company is now making moombahton, or moonbahcore. absolutely terrible stuff.

this is the video included in the article link-

what a massive tnuc.

and more than a few of us suggested a subforum made for brostep, to unclutter the huge amounts of shite that seem to come through general on a daily basis

mods didnt wanna do it because they thought it was a stupid idea trying to split up the forum between bro & the original sound

anyway, my point is... this thread is over 100 pages now and it seems like its pretty much been achieved anyway

all most all of the bro related threads eventually get merged into this one

surely looking at it now as a whole, it wouldve made more sense to just go and make a new subforum....
Not really.
A brostep sub forum would surely be discussions and posting of brostep tunes for people that like that style. Not all the deep heads saying how much they hate skrillex /brostep
no more sub forums for offshoots/subgenres (whatever you want to call it) of the sound. the creation of the house (?) sub forum alone was one of the most exhausting debates the mods have ever had. we're never going to go down that road again. we started a grime sub forum years ago, and that created a shitfest of epic proportions and nothing but bad vibes/threats/attacks,etc. pretty much the worst of the worst. judging by even 20 pages of this thread, a brostep sub forum would turn into one big shitfest as well.

brostepforum.com was a missed opportunity, so if people feel strongly about it, get cracking and build that site, and see if it takes off.
i guess im of the opinion that if there was a subforum for the bro sound, that a lot of people who dont like the sound wouldnt even go there, and the people that do like it would actually be able to have discussions without fear of being trolled or flamed 24/7....

i dunno, it just seems silly that its smack on the first page on the main forum of this site.

but, who am i to say anything.... i dont really have any influence, so i guess we're just going to have to live with this instead.

On a more positive note of 'celebrity DJs' DJ Sid aka Starscream from Slipknot actually does good shows that I have seen. He is an old school junglist though and plays lots of ragga jungle, but a few years ago he was dropping dubstep in his sets solo and opening for the band. Good vinyl selection, but he's more of a turntablist, too much scratching for my tastes. He had a nice soundsystem though called Full Metal Jungle.

I'm not sure what he's playing these days though. Would not surprise me if slipknot did some kind of dubsteppish thing next. Their first album had hints of jungle.

"and guidance from such dubstep gurus as Datsik and Skrillex."

I just sighed and gave a disapproving shake of the head to my laptop screen.
