What is their issue with it out of interest? To me it seems like Obama has just done it to gain some votes, although I dont see anything wrong with it in the first place, so shouldnt have been such a big deal that he has endorsed it.

gain some votes? he's going to lose an insane amount of votes doing this. he used to fence sit and say he doesn't agree with gay marriage but he'll never actively rally against it
i think it's an insanely ballsy move to do, massive props to him

It's a big deal over in the US where homophobia is still rife. It also clearly sets him against one of the conservative/republican agendas, which I believe he's been fairly wishy-washy about. It's could be the issue that either wins him the election or lose it, because of swing voters and their religious/personal beliefs.

Quite.. and I imagine if he didn't have quite such a safe position at the moment with an embarrassment of a Republican party to compete with he probably wouldn't have been so vocal.
He's still made absolutely sure that it's a "personal view" so he's got an excuse for not getting it through - very nearly happened with DADT.
In 30 or 40 years time all this fencesitting will look pretty ball-less tbh!

I dont think many of the people who are anti-gay marriage would have been voting for him in the first place!
