haha was contemplating bumping this to see if opinions had calmed down on this a bit

funny to see rusko talked about as pushing the melodic side of things. i really wish he'd do more stuff in that vein as he can do it really well

Well Liquid drum and bass has basically come from adding a bit of soul and funk into drum so really were talking about putting a bit soul and funk into dubstep which cant be a bad thing.

Ive been trying to push this sound and make my dubstep have a lot of musical presence.

Check out hope on my myspace page it started out as liquid dnb tune even the bassline is very liquidy.

production is about being fresh and making something thats you.
Heny and Quest are powerful punchers. "liquid" doesnt mean it has boundaries it just is focusing on the smoother side of music and tones, and of course theory comes in with using more 7th's and 11th chords which also helps set "liquid" dubstep into a new part of the huge room of Dubstep.

Agreed.....what starts off as a simple adjective tends to turn into a label then people get sand in their vag if you mislabel a specific tune.

IMO of course.

well i think musicality can only be a good thing - but i like my 2-note basslines as well, it all depends on the tune ..
only thing i can say is there is a huge felt difference for me between the records we all love that kinda defined dubstep (dmz especially!) and "usual" club music. it has some kind of emotion and originality to it, depth, and it makes the club tunes more than ONLY dance music. so thats also what i like about the dubstep i like! sometimes a lot of it can be created by the mixing in a set as well...

def waitin for more vocal and melodic tunes!! like u mentioned guys like mala, d1, u r makin it happend.. but as i see its still just dubstep.. makin categorys like in dnb : tecstep, liquid, dark, drumfunk, neuro etc.. dont want it into dubstep.. cause all these SUB-categorys means that people dont even want to break boundaries... let's just keep it all dubstep Smile

but lookin forward ur liquid beats ! Cool

I like these words above! But I think that there are some peeps on Insectmind doing this same sort of thing and have been for a min.

I also think that even putting a name on something puts it in a box for some.

I guess thats why I keep calling it dubstepish so my head keeps fresh.
But thats just me... you all can call it what ever u want.

I think I will just let it b what it is.

Peace B
