dont have one

and if you did that and got away with it fair play, power to you, if i didn't have insurance silly me, if i'd robbed stuff from other people KARRMERZ A BICH YO, if you got nicked for it - you dumb etc etc

the amount of times i skip the tram to work, then i get caught 3 times in a month and end up with a £100 fine. im not happy about it, but fuck it, i got away with it for that long, give no shits, you fuck up you pay the price, if you get away with it, whatever

people go around pretending constantly they're thinking about everyone around them when they only really give a damn if they have a scapegoat to hang

you take something you haven't paid for its THE SAME THING

just like squatting

the difference is a products potential retail value

the item i may steal may not ever get sold, it might sit on the rack and get thrown out and be repossessed by a 'dumpster diver'

its just safer and easier to go dig shit out the bins, but fuck it, i want a steak not a week day old houmous multi-pack
it's not the same thing, if you've thrown something in a bin you are relinquishing ownership. If i threw something in a bin, I wouldn't be annoyed at anyone who took it for themselves for any reason. There is not a thing in my life I have ever thrown away that that would apply to.
so if i came round to your house and rummaged through your bins and took your shredded bank statements with all your personal information/account numbers etc. on you'd just be cool with that [need i point out that this is a hypothetical 'you' and i dont care if you 'do all your banking online' or whatever]??

supermarkets throw food away because they cant legally sell it after they've had it in store on shelf for a certain amount of time, not cos they got bored of it and dont need it anymore, its not trash, its not junk, its not tat... its edible food they throw away. and people go in and steal it, which is great, power to them, but its no different to stealing from the shelf. a supermarket is not a person, a family or a household. it is a private business enterprise. shoplifters get blamed for the prices of products being raised, which is scapegoating considering the supermarkets could spend money making their stores more secure but instead they just charge paying public more.

spending money making your stores more secure would also be a cost passed on to the public. they dont because the cost of making it so secure as to prevent all theft would be far greater than the cost of theft. and a huge inconvenience to customers. as for skipping, stealing food is not remotely like stealing bank statements, come on noam man. it's not the object itself you would care about if that happened its the security of information. would i care if someone stole food i'd thrown in the bin? hell no

i dont see much wrong with stealing from capitalist entities though tbh cos they are stealing from workers anyway and on a far larger scale :w:. ive shoplifted tons in my life, i don't anymore because i can afford to buy things but if i needed to shoplift to get by i wouldnt think twice. the entire social edifice is built on theft

which is when people show their true colours

Lloyd was relating it to people rummaging through his bins, thats what ID thieves do, they rummage through peoples bins and steal bits of information that are useful to them, that have been thrown out in the trash. somehow that means you've 'relinquished ownership' of that information has it?

my point was that stealing is stealing, if something isn't YOURS and you take it, thats theft. simple as.

if you find $$ on the street that IS someones money, its not yours, but who'd NOT take it based on that?? people develop weird ethical systems relating to stealing, some things are just seen as more acceptable, some things are seen as less acceptable

its one of the oldest laws we have as a race, but yano what, if you have the balls to go out and do it and get away with it then credit to ya. btw im not advocating going out and nicking your best mates mums car cos she left the keys out, but robbin a pack of steaks from Tesco?? fair game if you got the stones.

When I worked in a grocery store the employees stole shit all the time. I stole food because I was making minimum wage and it was easy as pie. After I got fired for not cutting my hair I found out a bunch of managers got fired because they would steal cartons of smokes, pack them into garbage bags and pretend to throw them out.
To me if you pay minimum wage you deserve to get ripped off.

to me, if you're working at a grocery, you deserve to be earning minimum wage.

some drama went down yesterday when i was shopping at the department store. some lady got caught stealing shit by putting it in her baby's stroller. so she goes through the detector thing and it starts beeping but the manager had his eye on her anyways. goes to her stroller, looks around a bit and sees an item. she starts making a scene, screaming in really bad icelandic how it was a mistake blah blah. so the manager calls someone else and they want to check her stroller to see if she's got more items. she starts yelling ''NO ONE IS GONNA TOUCH MY BABY, NO ONE IS GONNA HARASS MY BABY'.'' and the managers look really uncomfortable, being that this is iceland and no one likes a confrontation, they let her go..

and the detector thing goes off again..
they just shrugged and looked really uncomfortable. this was all while i was PAYING for my shit. should've just walked out..

I once nearly got caught nicking a copy of Fargo on VHS (HA!) because they'd hidden the security tag inside the spine of the video case and I didn't check there. Security guard stopped me coming out of Virgin Megastore when the alarms went off, I denied it and he let me walk off.

Shook me up pretty bad for a bit though :?

My criminal record consists of once stealing a pack of hubba bubba from a shop in Aylesbury because they sold me a stale marble.

I was about 14

no, because the information contained on the object is a different thing from the object that it's on.

does your bank account magically get closed when you throw out a bank statement?

no.

when the dustbin man collects your bins with your bank statements inside is he stealing your information?

... no.

the information theft is a different act from the taking of the object that the information is on.

crikey.

I stole small change from a girl at school.
It feel out of her pocket so I took it and bought my sister a doll.
My mother locked me in a room and periodically came in to beat me.

I bought my sister a doll ffs, how selfless can a kid be.
