i just hate the labour market man. the labour market pisses me off. why can't i just have a job where it's like "you work these hours, you get paid this reasonable amount per hour, and it's all legal and shit". why is it all "yeah, you're self employed" (no, you employ me, and tbh i'm pretty sure if i had an employment tribunal based on these working conditions they would agree, TOO BAD the government are changing tribunal rules to make it harder for me to whoop your lying ass in Work Court), and "yeah, you're doing a work trial, it's just like 4 hours long, you just donate your time" (donate your time? you ain't a charity love, don't make me slap you), and "yeah, i'm being really nice to you by paying you cash in hand and not taxing you, which is totally a favour to you, despite the fact i am already paying you less than min wage to begin with, and NI contributions will help you get more money when i eventually sack your ass for being ill because hey I can Do That Shit), and "haha I'm genuinely offering you £3.50 an hour, this is literally a thing that i'm doing right now"
