at the risk of sounding like a complete knob how does Source Direct and AGCG relate to 130?

btw: any of Source's singles > either of their albums

If you read the paragraph, it says so...

ANYWAY AS I'M FEELING GENEROUS, even though you just parred my guide straight off, basically just took a guess that a lot of 130 producers would be influenced by 'em to some degree, and there's a lot of similar vibes and sample styles used in Source Direct's stuff and Black Secret Technology. It's not a commonly held view, in fact, it's probably just me, but in that guide I tried to paint a bit of a picture of where it was coming from.

Also, at the risk of starting this conversation for a third time, I agree that their singles are better than the album, but I didn't wanna list a load of SD singles when Exorcise The Demons is a pretty good overall indicator of their style.

selection >>>>>> mixing

however, it helps when two out of three transitions come through cleanly...

lol

and yeah, sd's singles are better than controlled developments and exorcise the demons, but both are still fucking great tho. and also, what they did under other aliases (specially oblivion) >>> sd stuff, imo at least

Hokusai - Black Rose and SD - The Crane are their best tunes IMO

I hear ya but with Wen @ System it was a bit different.

Firstly we'd just had 3 hours of non-mixed roots with an mc chatting between, its always sick but past 11:30 you can feel the hype building in the room in the leadup to the first set of proper beats at 12. Wen's selection was sick undoubtedly but most of the tunes he was playing didnt lend themselves well to edge-rolling like roots tunes for example (e.g minimal intros/not immediately recognisable/getting the room going)

Dont get me wrong his set was sick + got to hear some massive tunes that'd never get dropped at System otherwise but mixing is important especially in such a hype environment. Its the difference between a good set and an unforgettable one (e.g Commodo @ 1st Birthday, Chef in June) Vivek used to be guilty of slightly deading it with slow mixing but his last sets have been much slicker.

Depends on the night I guess. Sounds like from what johoosh is saying was that system had a rep for quickly getting through banger after banger.
