mawltea that is awesome man, you should do a whole series of them!
and to answer your question
mawltea wrote:Loving those images, horse! How did you make them?
as far as i remember the artwork contains the following...
scans of antique family portraits
scans of images of diagrams and illustrations from old medical journals/animal encyclopedias
photos of statues
photos of knots of sheeps wool caught on barb wire fences
photos of ink drops in water
photos of cigarette smoke
scans of paint textures i made
scans/photos of found typography
miscellaneous photogtraphed textures (crumpled paper, tree bark, pavement cracks, old book covers, dusty glass etc)
all those things are layered and layered and layered and layered and layered in photoshop.
some of the cd artwork has 150+ individual layers
and here finally is the finished artwork...
go to iamthesleepwalker.com for more images

Shit, man, that is great. It's not often these days I come across digital art that really impress me, but that stuff has that nice organic feel to it - just lovely.

Oh, and, I am doing a series of those portraity things, got a couple more I will post up here as soon as they're scanned.
grillis; I drew them by hand on printed paper - and thanks!

cheers man

a lot of the textures and bits & pieces i use to build up those images are actually photos/scans of organic, nature-y type things so that helps keep everything flowing and not looking to digital i think.
looking forward to seeing more of those portraits...

snii - that is outstanding work mate. really feeling it!!
also new from me...
a little collaborative effort between me and DTR who also posts in here
the aim was to send each other some artwork and then "remix" it
DIGITAL KELP
DTR original
MY remix
---
PAISLEY
DTR original
MY remix
---
DTR has remixed some of my "face" paintings (if anyone remembers those?) into a sweet little morphing animation
hopefully that'll be done soon...

nice work lidsjunky. would love seeing a colored version of that.
i find it pretty interesting to see how certain artistic trends and styles float about and get absorbed ,modified and and re-absorbed by others. the number of people doing art with completely full compositions made from fragments of hundreds of subjects seems to be constantly increasing. i know other styles of art/music etc always have trends ,genres ,flavours of the months or whatever you wanna call them, but for me personally, this is one style ive noticed multiply the most in a short period of time.
im not sure if its just that the type of people who have the tendenices to fill entire pages with a bombardment of shapes and object is increasing, or if the internet is further becoming a stronger vessel for delivering both direct and subliminal inspiration to do this kind of stuff.
i guess everything has to have an opposite flip side to form the whole.
(not sure where that train of thought came from haha)
anyway...some frames from an animation /vj visuals/fx ive been playing about with. made entirely from scratch, layering a massive chain of fx onto some fractal noise.

nice one--video soon come! at the moment its kinda just the equivelant of some detailed music visualizer. gonna latch some sound frequencies to parameters of the visuals soon to get some better results.tis also 3d so can fly through it

takes fucking long to render though but will be worth it.
again, if anyone knows their after effects/is into their animations etc and wants to work on some projects , hit me up!

dtr ive been doing that style since i was about 14 and im 28 now.. doesnt mean i didnt absorb the style from somewhere else but it wasnt on the internet! hehe.. i think to be honest its an easy way to make a lot of semi-impressive art into one big impressive work.. but people seem to like it a lot.. ive actually sold some prints of other works like that.. most of the influence came from graffiti i think. its cool to hear someone comment on it with something more than "thats cool" even though those comments are always welcome also

i cant imagine what those animation frames look like in motion.. cant wait to see videos!
horse - i really like how you go from that free flowing almost tribal/nature feel into that more refined/machine style stuff.. never seen anything like that
snii: is that your wall piece?
_v_: very scary figures you got goin on there, id love to see those on skateboard decks or vinyl/cd covers.. and of course im sure theyd look sick on a wall
lots of talent around here
