Yup. Got stung with ridiculous phone bills on many an occasion. I leave my phone off pretty much all the time whilst abroad now unless I'm stuck or urgently need to call someone.

Sorry, need to clarify - this is my COMPANY MOBILE. I work a TELECOMMS COMPANY and they have cut off my data roaming as it's gone over some kind of limit on the network of the company that I FUCKING WORK FOR
