Everything, in a way... but mainly the human animal's experience of society; why we did it, why we stay doing it, why it never feels quite "right" even though it's markedly better than living wild... why we should be proud of what our ancestors acheived, but not assume there's nothing left to build.... all the way down to why we feel the need to fight over football teams, sing national anthems, fuck strangers, tap our feet to songs we don't like and self harm.... why belonging to a religion can still feel positive in an outwardly Godless world.brettheaslewood wrote:whats it about?magma wrote:I've started sketching out the structure of a book I want to write. I feel like society is often taken for granted - people instinctively assume that society is a natural part of being human because they're born into it, rather than realising it's a gift we've only been benefitting from for 1/10 of our species time on the planet it's seen as a fundamental part of our nature - we think we're entitled to it rather than knowing we have to work together to make a good society the reality... today we live in a society where the rich will happily dodge taxes and sell bad mortgages, the so-called 'underclass' will loot trainers and iPads and war coverage is used as entertainment because we've come to see inequality and "Us Vs Them" as par for the course rather than evidence that there's still work to be done on this 12,000 year old project of ours.
So yeah, I'm just starting to sketch out headings and research topics... I think it might be a fairly long project, but I'm glad to be making a start. My main problem is going to be not letting myself disappear onto random tangents, I've not written anything longer than an essay in my entire life and the last one of those was 12 years ago!!
(This is what it looks like when I bite off more than I can chew...)

Always preferred Fruit Salads myself.magma wrote: Cot DAMN, I haven't had a Black Jack in ages.
It's still the law to have one Fruit Salad for every two Black Jacks, though...
