now that i am awake i can properly comment on this situation. ive read most of the posts but i wasnt able to make it through all 16 pages and i apologise if anyones already stated what im going to say.
i see this as a good thing. yes its horrible how deapohs been treated and the politics involved are just as messy as the war in iraq. however, this thread alone has recieved more than ten thousand views. TEN THOUSAND!! i know that within those ten thousand there are some highly motivated, talented, clever and resourceful people. i no longer see a reason for us to be so dependent on rinse anymore. a new door has opened and hopefully this will bring some light/exposure to people who may not have had or ever have a chance to be a part of the rinse machine. there are a good amount of quality djs and producers on this forum alone whose sets i would download regularly if i was given an outlet. dubstep music is powerful music, way too powerful to be contained by one entity. allow (some of) them man over there at brewery lane, let them have their sets. i have since moved on.

Instead of cussing down Gee and Ammunition coz I'm sure they dont really give two hoots - business is business people its a zero sum game - why dont all of you reaching out on here / put some money down and fund an internet station off the back of here.
this forum is the most popular online dubstep related entity
the people behind it are fairly organised and proactive to get it off the ground
deapoh's got the skill to do his thing and upload the files for the readers too
i'm sure something can come together here - especially with the forum and deapoh's non-for-profit ethic.
if advertisers get behind this forum, im sure you'll get rewarded financially.
this place should look at dnbarena or dogs on acid and think about upping its own game if it wants to build the scene out in a positive fashion.
you can't expect the dj's and producers to really start backing one side or another - they are in it for their own and will do whatever it takes to maximize their own efforts and success. what they say offline is up to them, they certainly aint dumb enuff to come on here now are they.
this is a great opportunity deapoh mate, not the end of your efforts.
unless of course ammunition try and buy this forum too! but im sure there are other people with financial backing around...and it wud be up to the organisers of the site to keep it as unbiased and equal to all.
its high time something like this happened because there are too many factions and cliques in this scene which are plain to see. if all of you on here profess this universal free love and power of the people ethic that dubstep incapsulates then it should be on this forum where it manifests itself.

i don't think this is needed - if anything this whole rinse malarkey will strengthen Sub FM, which is already becoming bigger and bigger
also, respect to deapoh! you were the first person to play my tunes. i remember you going nuts about dynamic balancing

				big up Deapoh
ironic but genuine advice from an old Youngsta interview:
".....follow what you really love and just keep doing it. Even when times seem hard just keep going. It's like being a footballer this music shit, it's a tough game unless you're hooked up to the max' with contacts. It's such a big popular thing to wanna do but if you're that good, you'll get noticed eventually, just like if you're that good a football player."
Looks like it was decided that Souljah of the year Deapoh and the Barefiles/Baredubs represented a threat to someones business interests and products. I don't know the people involved so I looked them up, but what exactly does Sarah "Souljah" Lockhart do? Sarah reads like a powerful figure in the scene. Did I finally find who tells the DJ's what to play, or just what to say (that's PR yes?)
Reading history of dubstep it struck me how it was vital to the scene that the likes of DMZ and Hot Flush came through with different club nights, DJs, and Labels.
While it may eat into market share, new blood also can bring fresh sounds or directions, and their own efforts to grow the scene.
Good luck Deapoh with your djing, label and site.

Space Boy your bang on, been saying this fro a while now. We need a Dub Arena. And lets do it b4 the Ammo cloud takes it...
Regarding Barefiles
I'm sad to read this. We all knew it was coming but its still shocking when you read stories like this. I've had support form Deapoh since day dot, supported him in whatever way I could and always felt very humble when he hosted Afterdark shows for us. He help push our sound and Dubstep in a way that no money orientated company will be able to do.
His work was never for the money, was for the love of music and the way you have been treated my friend is nothing short of an outrage.
If Ammo are so biz orientated then how could they not see how this would look to them. I have to say I heard about it a while back but I thought that Barefiles would work with Rinse as they couple so well. I expected a delay oon the speed of the uploads so if people wanted to hear bang up-to-date Dub the had to tune in but could download a 2 week or month old set once it was archived onto Baredubs.
Sadly it goes back to point one, this IS a business to the people involved who do invest a lot of money. They will protect and if they see an opening to make more money they will take it, standard. This is not knocking Rinse/Ammo etc. this is just a simple fact in business.
Last word, out to Deapohs. True soljah bro and nothing but goodness will come from this bro. I'd say its a good thing in a way, you know where you stand now. I know if DJ that gets his set hosted by Barefiles it does nothing but good for them and the music and promotion is the key to a healthy scene.
Your chest bro, really feel for you but your years of work were not in vain, you've become a Dubstep hero and thats gonna live on bro just like your Barefiles. Remember its your baby n nothing can take it away from you. 17 pages in 24hrs say it all dont you guys think.
Bless

im sympathetic with both sides and hold no bias, but demonising is out of line
its unfortunate that this has happened and i feel for what deapohs trying to do in light of the annoying rinse sets situation, but sarah/youngsta/ammunition arent a a couple of monopolising cuthroat business hardheads like everyone is assuming from deapohs conflict with them. anyone whos worked with them will vouch
we should fully support deapoh and all his future work, but people need to stop assuming they know that this situation is part of a ruthless business initiative over dubstep, its a disagreement that neither side could resolve and options were proposed, believe. 'buying' barefiles was just one of the later options approached to deapoh, not a way of monoplosing or getting rid of what he does, thats madness. people are greatly blowing it out of proportion
the easiest choice is to say rinse sets should come from barefiles and rinse, id be happy either way, but rinse reserves the rights to be the sole outlet for its shows and this didnt happen to boy anyone, its the norm in having an identity for a radio station, radio1 and kiss are treated in the same way. its not unreasonable especially since it was established this would happen a long time ago. it doesnt allow deapoh to host rinse sets on barefiles which is a shame, but to say that this was a malicious move by ammunition isnt fair
L
They why don't Sarah or Gee come on here and spill their side of the story ?
I have a high level of respect for you Mr. Envoy for your music and your integrity in standing behind the people who support you. But this is not YOUR problem to address. It's theirs. If your assertation of their actual motives is correct, then they should have no problems coming here and laying it down themselves.
And what are the thoughts of any of the other Rinse.FM dj's? Seems like they've either been instructed to keep their mouths shut, or are worried that any negative words they may speak about their situation could result in a direct negative backlash from the management. That's not a way to run a company/organization. The only TRUE way FWD is to listen to those people directly around you. Without the DJ's/producers, Rinse/Ammo/etc. aren't anything.

I'm a few days late on this but, WTF? what the hell does rinse think they are doing? Depoh's efforts through recording and hosting have allowed countless people such as myself, people who live outside of the 5 blocks of radio reception, to enjoy many HUGE sets.
I have nothing but respect to Depoh and all the hard work he has done to allow me to gain access to most all of the favorite sets on my computer. Cheer mate!
this whole thing makes me one sad panda.

Deapoh, without a doubt you are one of the ambassadors of this sound and scene, and i think that alot of djs/producers getting international loving and bookings need to realise that Deapohs hard work had a large part to play, "pirate radio" from london dont get picked up by radios in Estonia or Brooklyn or San Fran or wherever , i mean i cant even pick it up in south london.
You definitley brought the sound to more than alot of people , and for that all man can say is big up and thank you!

I never been a rinse dj or mc so if theres ever anything you need bruv for a show or anything , holla at your boy, YA DUN NO!!!!

				it seems to me:
Dubstep music is beyond what Rinse can offer now.
There's too many people doin it worldwide, presenting their take on the sound. To many other radio sources that are way more accessible.
As for myself, i will let my voice be heard with my money.
i wont be buying any Tempa releases anymore. i've never bought any Ammo tunes cuz the pressings always sounded a bit jank to me anyway.
It's a rough situation for the artists on Tempa & Rinse dj's, but those peeps are talented enought to carry on without. Say later for the mans who wanna control you.
All i can say to those cats is stand up for what you think is right. Rinse has benefitted enormously from Barefiles/Deapoh, and he's been done wrong. If there was a problem with different sourced streams/dl's, they knew that from the start. But now that they have benefitted off Deapoh, they want to cut him loose? Of course I don't know all of the details of the situation, but the fact that most Rinse Dj's haven't replied to this makes the smell of it all even that much more fishy.
Big Up Deapoh. keep carrying the torch bro -

17 pages of support and still going....the public just aint with you on this one rinse!
this reeks of the narrow minded london-centric opertunistic rampant dollar chasing material wealth bullshit that fucks music up for everyone.
plus. seriously gutted about the lack of barefiles recently.
i need a fix.

vote with you your feet i say. or your ears in this case lol

Right, bear in mind I'm speaking as someone who played on Rinse for more than 2 years.
Spaceboy wrote:unless of course ammunition try and buy this forum too!
They tried that already. Props to Dubway for sending them on their way.

Sorry, I've really got to take exception to this. Rinse have no rights whatsoever over their 'content'. They pay no royalties to the artists whose music they broadcast and they operate illegally (regardless what your take on pirate radio is). For them to start telling people what they can and can't do is just ridiculous. Radio 1 and Kiss invest millions and pay the proper money to artists so they can continue making their art. Rinse does fuck all apart from broadcast poor quality, over-limited FM radio, the majority of the time playing music you can hear on better quality legal radio. So what's the point?
Anyway, what are they going to do? Go round to Deapoh's with baseball bats? That's how it normally works in pirate radio, which is a far cry from the legal bullshit they seem to be spouting to him. They have nothing that would stand up in a court of law. So I say, fuck em - carry on posting Rinse sets. If anything the decision should be made by the DJ who did the show.
And producers - make a stand. Say you don't want your tunes played on Rinse unless they pay your royalty.
One more thing: a while back people might remember Ammunition released a FWD Live CD mixed by Plastic Man. There was a track on there that was coming out on Hotflush, but wasn't out yet. I phoned up Youngsta and told him they were out of order, and eventually accepted his apology and explanation that it was a misunderstanding - they didn't bother doing licenses for the live CDs (presumably meaning none of the other tracks had been asked for either), despite the fact they were retailing it. I said, OK this time but this best not happen again. But did I get even a phone call or an email from anyone else at Ammunition maybe apologising, clarifying or making some gesture of goodwill? Did I fuck.
