Wub - You should get a copy of Geek Love by Katherine Dunn.
It's an amazing look at circus freaks.
Really one of my favorite books of all time.

Image in french. Love Celine's style and even though he may have been a tnuc, he's probably one of the best writers of the 20th century.

I've been meaning to read JTTEOTN for years. Need to get my arse in gear and track down a copy.

recently I've read -

Dispatches, Michael Herr
Queer, Burroughs
Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad (gets better every time I read it. possibly my favourite book.)

about to start pynchon's latest effort, Inherent Vice.

Yes !!! The ending is fucking glorious and all the sun/shadow/emptiness references blew my mind when I read this. Definitely one to keep next to the bed

And I fucking hate myself for it, but have picked up a couple of decent tips from it including one WTF moment of horrendous realisation about something that I'd previously overlooked

Malcolm X - The Last Speeches

Moving on to:

Oscar Wilde - The Picture of Dorian Gray

Absolutely amazing writing, never read any Wildes before. This paragraph is one of the best things I've ever read:
He played with the idea and grew wilful; tossed it into the air and transformed it; let it escape and recaptured it; made it iridescent with fancy and winged it with paradox. The praise of folly, as he went on, soared into a philosophy, and philosophy herself became young, and catching the mad music of pleasure, wearing, one might fancy, her wine-stained robe and wreath of ivy, danced like a Bacchante over the hills of life, and mocked the slow Silenus for being sober. Facts fled before her like frightened forest things. Her white feet trod the huge press at which wise Omar sits, till the seething grape-juice rose round her bare limbs in waves of purple bubbles, or crawled in red foam over the vat's black, dripping, sloping sides. It was an extraordinary improvisation. He felt that the eyes of Dorian Gray were fixed on him, and the consciousness that amongst his audience there was one whose temperament he wished to fascinate seemed to give his wit keenness and to lend colour to his imagination. He was brilliant, fantastic, irresponsible. He charmed his listeners out of themselves, and they followed his pipe, laughing. Dorian Gray never took his gaze off him, but sat like one under a spell, smiles chasing each other over his lips and wonder growing grave in his darkening eyes.
HNNNNGH :o

A World of Trouble by Patrick Tyler

A history of US policy in the Middle East since the end of World War II - very interesting and informative. Also played quite straight, too, which is nice, as it is a subject that usually inspires frothing-mouthed hysteria across the political spectrum.

Now trying to make my way through The Princess Bride. It's one of my favouritest movies as it's hilarious but I'm not as sure about the book so far.
